Gun Safe on a non concrete floor
« on: August 06, 2012, 01:08:27 AM »
Hey Everyone!  I just bought a 500 pound safe and I would like to keep it on a floor that is not concrete.  Does anyone have their safe on a non concrete floor?  Any problems with the structural integrity of your house?  Any issues with a sagging floor?   I don't have that many guns...yet, but I like to keep a nice little stockpile of ammo on hand.

Thanks!

Mike

P.S. I do have a few concrete floors in my house where I can put it but i would like to put it on the non concrete floor if possible.

Put it on the concrete floor and bolt to it.

Our Salt water tank is 200 gals...   we put a post under it in the basement.    500 is light..

You can calculate floor loads with some fairly simple formulas.  Here's a site that explains it.

I would tend to think 500+lbs is on the heavy side & you should look into more support .
forgot to add you can toe nail another beam to the existing one & increase load wt. Like 2 2X8's = 1 2X10 in load bearing
