Title: How Much Is Enough?
Post by: Hawkeye on January 27, 2010, 10:37:37 PM
So, how much ammunition is enough?

I currently have about 700 rounds of 9mm and 500 .45 ACP. Most, not all, is FMJ's for range.  I know this is not enough but times a getting tough and ammo is harder to find.

You can never have TOO much ammo.  :)

Seriously, depending on how it's stored, how long it takes you to get through that much ammo, and when you think WWIII will start, I say keep on stock piling it.

Is Justin a local guy?

I just did a rough inventory of my stuff.

1450 .45 ACP
2900 9mm
700 .22LR (all CCI Minimag)
150 .223

It's all FMJ target ammo and all factory stuff (Federal, Remington or PMC).  I am WAY short on .223 and will be going after a case or 2, PMC .223 seems like a good deal for target stuff.

I need 10mm!  I have none and a Glock 20 that's hungry.

Trevor,

Justin is NOT a local guy, but shipping shouldnt run you that much if you do UPS Ground.  ALso depends on how many cans you want.

I have over a thousand rounds of 10mm for the Glocks; 450 of them are hollow points.
I have about 200 7.92x57 rounds for my sporterized 1917 Danzig Mauser.
I have a few hundred rounds of #00 Buck for my Saiga-12, 58 of which are in loaded magazines... plus one in the chamber.
There are six 12-gauge rifled slugs in my wife's Mossberg 500. (If she needs more than that, she'll just have to grab my Saiga).
There are a few boxes of .357 Magnum and .38 Special for my wife's Taurus 608 and my mother-in-law's J-frame.

We should teach the cats to shoot...  ;)

Is there such a thing as enough? ;D
rough count of the ammo locker includes:
800 rounds of 45 acp
800 12 gauge shells, mostly birshot
500 rounds of 40
550 of 38 spl
250 of 9mm
100 of 44 spl
400 of 22
Looks like it may be time to get to the reloading bench for a few of those calibers

I was kinda thinking the same thing Hawkeye, I haven't been able to go shooting in almost 4 months and have little to no ammo.

Not sure if anyone is interested in Cabelas ammo cans.

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0077529217153a&navCount=1&podId=0077529&parentId=cat601051&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat20712-cat20716-cat601051_TGP&catalogCode=9IS&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601051&hasJS=true

They are $8.99 and BOGO too!  I spoke to a Julie (my email showed 2 not 4) she said they should ship 4.  If not call them back.
BOGO is good until 10 Mar.

I sometimes feel like i'm a little crazy when I look at the ammo I have.. Its not that much compared to some of you guys but I always have between 700-1000 rounds  for my glock and 100-200 12 ga rounds. I mean if things really went crazy im not sure if i could carry much more ... im sure if the economy doesnt get better we will be seeing alot more crazy stuff go down and I should have plenty to take care of my family and I.

Posted this titled "SCORE!" on deloc.

I found a Dick's rain check that was 5 years old for 45 ammo.
Listed on it reg price 12.99 sale price 8.98.  The RC was for 10
boxes.

So, it cost me 89.80 for 500 rounds of 45.  On the bottom of the
receipt it said, you saved 160.10.

Todays price on the shelf is 24.99

The manager initially said he was not going to honor it because it was 5 years old.  Said that was his problem since there is not an expr date on it.  Then he said it was LESS than what they paid for it.  I said, That too is your problem.

The Mrs. said she is NOT going with me when I use the 7 year old RC for SG Ammo.....

LOL!  Hey, it's their fault if they dont have any policy on rain checks or expiration dates on them.
