New PA license question..
« on: March 30, 2011, 04:17:16 PM »
Now that I am pretty much past the cut-off for the mail in PA permit, does anyone know the easiest way to go about getting one now? I know I will have to drive up there and do it in person, but where can I go? Which county? Do I go to the police station or the courthouse? Any help would be great. Thanks a lot!

you would go to the county sheriff.  All sheriffs are supposed to issue to anyone that applies...but some will fight issuing to non-residents.

What is your nearest PA county?

I work in new castle, so I would guess Delaware county..... I will try to give them a call later and see what they say.....

Colt,
Media courthouse (Delaware county), is easy.
Download and fill out your paperwork here:
http://www.co.delaware.pa.us/sheriff/weapons.html
Bring it in person to the sheriff's office in the courthouse. They take your photo, and money ($46 last year).
Approval letter from the sherriff arrives in 4 weeks.
Go in person to pick it up. Good for 5 years.

Take $25...the website isn't up to date...all counties should be charging $25 now.

Here's my question, although it's a bit early:
My Centre County permit expires in 2015. Will I need to drive up there, or will I be able to renew or replace it in Media?

As a non-resident you should be able to go to any sheriff's office.
