I heard on MeTV news that Delaware was considering a permit to purchase a handgun that includes a training requirement. Any truth to this?

Look in the politics section here. Lots of info...

I know I'm a newbee here, I know my place, but the sticky 'State Senators' is a little out of date; Senator Thurman Adams Jr. is long gone, and where's PettyJohn? :D

Fixed the list for you.

SB 3 will pass and so will SB6 I'm betting, with the same votes. The only recourse will be the Supreme Court, if any.

DECCW permit holders----Not affected
Permit holders will absolutely be affected.
Obstacles to lawful firearm ownership hurt everyone, even those who are (for the moment) exempted from these oppressive bills. Big box stores (Cabelas/Bass Pro) will not stock "banned" items just for the sake of the few thousand CCDW permit holders. Mail order outlets will refuse to ship to the state of Delaware, as they cannot reliably verify those who claim to be exempt. Small mom & pop and other LGS will suffer loss of sales income, resulting in higher prices and less available inventory for all customers.
And who is to say the legislators won't be back again next year to remove said exemptions from the law? Who will stand up for the minority of permit holders (less than 2.5% in the state of Delaware)?

Does anyone know what Sokola’s amendment 1 to SB 6 is?

NOTHING for you and I.....

My take, after reading the text of the bill, says that DE permit holders are exempt only from the training requirement. All the other conditions apply (not sure about the fingerprinting) and you will still have to get the permit to purchase that is good for one gun for 180 days.
-
After paying for the training courses, having your fingerprints entered into the system, passing the Nics check,
90% of the heavy lifting is done. At that point, in another 15 days, AND $100 for the newspaper you can have
your CCW Permit. It really doesn't make sense to get card to purchase, when for a few dollars more, you can
legally meet the requirements for a CCW. Exercise your 2A right to bear arms.

Can still take 6 months depending on county. With today's technology, it should be 2 weeks tops.

Based on what I read in the proposed law, 30 days.
