Title: ruger 22/45 problem - cannot dissassemble
Post by: trevor on September 28, 2009, 02:53:29 AM
We've got a problem with my wife's ruger 22/45. The first step in field stripping is of course to use a paperclip (OR SIMILAR) to open & swing out the mainspring housing. Only problem is, it will only open about 1/4 inch, and definitely won't swing out. Any ideas? This gun had been successfully stripped in the weeks before, but now, no joy.

If no ideas, any suggestions for a good gunsmith for this gun?

Hahahaha, welcome to the world of the ruger 22. Perfect little guns until its time to strip them. Let me preface this by saying this is not advice (don't wanna see abunch of responses about how I am wrong, I know I am) in the 3 years I've had my MK 3 I haven't stripped it yet. I bought a bore snake and some CLP and every once in awhile I run it thru the thing and haven't had any problems with it yet. If I try to tear that @@@@ thing apart everytime I shoot it, it'll never leave the safe.

I was able to figure it out. Hammer was blocking disassembly. All better now!  :)
