I'm still waiting for my new card to arrive and my current one expires today. If I carry my renewal receipt with me plus my current card will that keep me legal or do I have to go gunless until I get my new card?

Your good with the receip for a while.

This happened to me on my first renew in 1996. I was told not to worry because things were slow in Sussex Co. (Slower,Lower DE). I made copies of necessary proof of renew. My permit came in mid June. I also had checked with several contacts in law enforcement and I was told not to worry. Please let us know when you permit arrives. All the best to you.

May I suggest you carry a copy of your renewal application with you while carrying, until the renewal arrives. This is a good CYA policy.

You should be ok. Any reasonable police officer will accept this , but technically it is an affirmative defense in a court of law.
