New Urinal article
« on: January 17, 2016, 04:26:32 PM »
Some of you may have seen the article that says "Most gun charges dropped".
I know this is no big surprise to most of us, but it is good ammunition to stop new
gun control legislation.  Why bother with new laws when they have just agreed
that they don't enforce those on the books.  This sounded to me like an apology
from the AG for not enforcing existing gun laws, it costs too much.  As we know,
more is coming now that the legislature is back in session.  Magazine bans is being
introduced, and I would expect "assault" weapon bans.  Time to be on guard!!!

So then , it would seem the problem is not a shortage of laws, but a failure to enforce by the Atty Gen, and the Judges.

That's it, but it seems strange that they would admit it.  Especially since
some dems are planning new gun control bills.

I did not read the article but I would guess that most of the gun charges are dropped because of plea bargaining.

I did not see the article.   Does anyone have a link? Or info on when/where it was published?

This should work:

http://www.delawareonline.com/story/news/local/2016/01/15/prosecutors-gun-charges-dont-matter-much-convictions/78428440/

Regardless of why the charges are not prosecuted & given the current high profile status of "gun violence" I would expect to see nothing less than a 100% prosecution rate. I don't care if the perp gets 30 years for attempted murder. Give him another 5-10 on the gun charges. If they can't make gun charges stick, they need to seriously reevaluate what the police are doing.

Yeah, but they bargained away 40 years for the guy that killed again as soon as he finished
1 yr of his 10 yr sentence.  It's no wonder gun crime is as bad as it is, nothing bad happens,
even when they are caught.  But the AG looks good because he got a conviction.

If a mag ban is implemented and one of us get caught carrying the OEM mag in a G19 (15rds) we will prosecuted to the max. You can bet your @@@ on that. Glad this article came out and now the public can actually see how the justice system does not work. Believe me this is not just happening in DE it has been happening for decades throughout the USA. Believe me I have personal knowledge on this. A LEO makes a good collar with a gun charge involved and then later they find out the AG drops the gun charge. This is not good for morale but a LEO just gets use to it. Maybe Sen.Peterson and her ilk should read the article by Mr.Parra. All the best to everyone on this forum.

Every single step in the process has been corrupted, and I can't say that I have a solution to offer.  I will at, though, that the normal plan of just doubling down on what aint't workin' -- still ain't workin'.

Of course, this article isn't a surprise to many of us, but maybe it will at least shock the "other" folks into reality.  And the title really did have a good schock value.

Very few guns are actually "illegal guns."  A gun misappropriated by a criminal is no more of an "illegal gun" than a stolen car is an "illegal car."

This is an election year. The NRA, DSSA, and The Republicans, and even some Democrats will all work against this gun legislation. It has been around before and failed.

Most people who are arrested on several charges, guns or not, usually plead out and have some of the lesser ones dropped.

In my opinion, the article had a couple good points in the beginning. It then proceeded to invalidate everything with a bunch of double talk and backpedaling.

We dropped the gun charges and got them to plead guilty on something else. We got the conviction, so...... "What difference does it make?" (To quote our favorite candidate for Prison)

I could go on a rant that would require at least three soap boxes to stand on. I'll save my fellow board members the pain of hearing it all.

The story got picked up by Townhall.com...
