I wouldn't go to tod's Gun's ever again if he was giving away free guns...Long story short....His guns are not 25 dollars over dealer price like he advertises.  For example, I actually bought a Taurus PT 24/7 Pro 40 cal. from him for $430...Looked the next day and Gander Mountain has the same gun for sale for $429.99...I know with tax it would have been more but still its the base price im looking at here....Then when I found it cheaper on the net I printed out proof and Tod's website said they will beat and competitors price...Well Tod certainlt did not as a matter of fact all he could do was look at me and say "man they must buy them things by the truck load to sell them for that price" I know I would of had to pay for shipping and transfers but it still would have been cheaper... He's a crook...I finally ended my search at Branchy's gun shop in Laurel....Small Private owned shop with large on hand stock quantites.  Good ole' country sussex countain behind the counter who can tell you ANYthing you need to know and some things you dont want to know...I'd rather spend the money here than with some genius like Tod....Needless to Say I returned the gun to Tod, and Ill spend and extra 75 dollars to take the CCW class elsewhere as long as I dont have to deal with that @@@ ever again.  I'd pay 200 Extra dollars just to not go there and not complain once about it.... Further more this guy showed me how much Tod paid from his dealer book and its certainly a RIP OFF....

I took mine with Rob Miller From Red Hour Tactical. It was a great class. He took as much time that was needed to answer any questions I had too. He is a great guy and I would suggest that anyone looking to take a class in northern DE give him a call. If you need his # just shoot me a pm

I took mine under Carl Pace (Trin Tac) and had a pleasant experience.  Very knowledgeable, straight forward without a lot of fluff, etc.  They removed a lady from the class who clearly had no business carrying a gun concealed or not and did help her get settled just shooting the gun of her choice.

I'd recommend Carl / Trin Tac to anyone who already has good basic understanding of shooting.

I actually had a much different outcome with him. Maybe I got ripped off and didn't know it. Got a Ruger LCP for $275, a Smith and Wesson M&P40C for $495, and a Ruger SR9 stainless $430  I thought the prices were reasonable but thats cause I dealt with Shooters Choice a lot before.  They have a awful mark up. Does anyone know if those prices were good?

Well good @@@@ thing I posted this about tod's Guns....His shop was raided and shut down by DSP and ATF in early Aug....Im hearing he was selling guns illegally w/o running state and federal checks on people.  I also heard he was teaching the CCDW class and signing some other instructors name just to get people thru....So this guy was bad for everyone in the Laurel and surrounding areas.  Im happy this happened, I hope they throw his @@@ away for a long time!

Tods guns is where I went back in july. I also heard he was shutdown so I called the ag office about 3 weeks ago in ncc and was told they didnt shut him down  ???. Actually they informed tod that his certificates were not meeting their standards, So he pulled my certificate and told me it was fine and would not hold me up ???. I dont know what to believe. I was going to take another course just so I didnt get held up with a problem from tods. I know I tried to contact him after the class but never could contact him. I went down there due to the price and a 1 day class. I wish I knew then what I know now  :-\. I would of took a diferent class just to avoid the trouble.

I had never been there before , only for the class , I didnt like my " gut feeling" about him. Is it a reliable person that told you that he got shut down? Im just wondering why the da"s office told me what they did? I just want to know so I can do what I need to so I dont get held up from the blisstering speed of this whole process  ;D

yeah it was another gun shop owner I buy all my stuff from in Laurel off RT 24...He said in Aug swarms of ATF black yukons were there along with a mess of DSP vehicles...I guess he had guns on consignment there too...They were all siezed and the owners were unable to get them back...Bad bad deal for those people

This stuff was all a lot easier when you weren't required to take a class.  It's amazing to read about the hassles that people on here go through, whether it's the paper, or the course, or the State.  Quite honestly, the State has always been problematic.  I know that this sounds crazy, but at least it's reasonable to expect that the State is going to be problematic.  But places like the newspaper?  And courses that aren't up to snuff?

Of course it's reasonable to expect that anything with the state is going to be problematic.  I mean, how much easier could it possibly be to renew your DL or the registration on your vehicle, yet DMV seems to have a thousand steps (and a huge waiting line) to have ordinary things like these done.

What I don't understand is why they can't just have it cut and dry and have a list of "approved" newspapers posted, and have the places that are offering the classes basically have a canned course they teach (of course being free to teach above and beyond that) and use state "approved" (one style) of certificates?

It just seems like it would be a lot easier if they standardized a lot of things in the system.  Wouldn't eliminate all of the problems, but maybe some of them.

And they need a better method of producing permits, such as team up with DMV and get a lic card made for the ccdw permit or put it as an endorsement on your license..I just got mine friday and its already peeling apart...Its a POS

The first thing I did with mine was to remove it from that fifty-cent laminating job they did, trim 1/8" off the end so it might fit in my wallet, and seal it into a laminating pouch that might actually last more than a week.
They spare no expense: they print our permits on two adjacent tear-apart business cards, and then fold them over. Nice! It looks like they cut my photo down to size with childproof kindergarten scissors.
BJ's Wholesale Club makes better ID cards than the DE CCDW permit.

They'll buy a printer designed this century? Yeah, right.
I'm not holding my breath... my permit expires in 2015, and I expect the new one to be even crappier than this one.

When I got my CCW card it was laminated very cheap, would not even stick together. Went it to Staples and got it laminated, looks great, will fit in a photo holder in my wallet,[ make sure they get you picture off, it is not fasten very good] cost was less than 2 dollars, I think. Still I think it could be intergrater with my license or at least printed on something that looks at good. Have a question is the CCW included in the info that a P.O. can bring up on his computer when checking your license? A friend in N.C. told me that it is on his driving record and a P.O. can see it when they check.

Forgot to add that I read about getting it laminated at Staples on this site. Now for something different I have brought 3 guns [Glock23,glock26, and a judge from Tods gun shop, comparded prices and his was the best, he also always call for approval before I got the guns. Did not care much for him [acted like a S.A.] but the help was very helpfull. To each his own, I guess. Wondered what happen to him, he had just put in a allsum gun safe, a room for a gun repair , and was making an indoor range. Have brought from Brancheys also, nice guy, but maybe a little high, best place downstate I think is Steeles Gun Shop [on Rt9]in Lewis.

No.  Cops in delaware do not have instant access to the fact that you have a permit.  They can call and inquire about it, but most do not.

Hey Guys, I took my class with Carl Pace (Trin Tac USA) too. Excellent class and a lot of fun. Great examples and they walk you through the paper work for CCW. He makes it simple. Check out their web site. Trin Tac has so much more to offer in addition to the CCW class. If you live in kent or sussex county, its worth the drive.

could someone PM me or post the contact info of someone reputable to take the class?

I'm located in Wilmington, DE.

Also, which would be the best (most affordable) news paper to publish my info?

would it be okay to take the classes before I submit my application? ( would that help to speed up the process?)

thanks a lot!

I'm a resident of another state and I'm in the process of being relocated to Wilmington, DE and don't know the area yet. I'm reading on AG's website about having to get 5 residents as references(very difficult when new to area). Is there a class in the area that walks you through all the paperwork & processes & gives the proper training so that you finish the class with your CCW permit pending your background check?

Thanks in advance,

After many replies to this topic, it seems that it depends on what county you are from. Not many people are going to trave from NCC to go to a class in Sussex County, or the reverse. So the fact remains, it seems, that the place we went to take our training and get our permit thinks the place we went is best. I haven't seen any negative comments by anyone that went to a training course and then bad mouthed them. Or am I wrong?

Anyone know off hand what Trin Tac's class costs?

I'm thinking either Trin Tac or going with Dave Johnson.

Marino Tactical solutions in Lincoln, De.  Excellent class with top notch instruction!

I agree 100%. I took my class there and it well presented and the range section had numerous scenarios to shoot.

I took Trin Tac's class, and it was $295. I liked it.

Same here. Very knowledgeable instructor, and he put off a comfortable vibe. The price was also very pleasing at $135 (veterans rate.)
