The Gun Grabbers Are Back
« on: May 09, 2012, 01:09:07 PM »
You know the line “there are Lies, damned lies and statistics.”  It looks like the federal government wants to take away the states rights to govern themselves by forcing their hand on self defense laws.

Quote
"'Shoot-first' laws have already cost too many lives. In Florida alone, deaths due to self-defense have tripled since the law was enacted. Federal money shouldn't be spent supporting states with laws that endanger their own people," said Reps. Raul Grijalva of Arizona and Keith Ellison of Minnesota, the two Democrats who are offering the legislation. "This is no different than withholding transportation funds from states that don't enforce seat-belt laws."

First, let’s get rid of the seat belt comparison because seat belts are not protected by the constitution as are firearms.

Self defense deaths have tripled? More accurately the amount of deaths ruled as self defense have tripled, all the way from averaging 12 a year to 35 a year.

Quote
According to state crime stats, Florida averaged 12 “justifiable homicide” deaths a year from 2000-2004. After “Stand your Ground” was passed in 2005, the number of “justifiable” deaths has almost tripled to an average of 35 a year, an increase of 283% from 2005-2010.

Looking at the Florida murder rate, which averaged 1064 per year between 2005 and 2010, why is it that the democrats only want to go after the justifiable homicides in Florida?  This is really just a bait and switch. They want to say “death” and “tripled” in the same sentence without telling an outright lie.  If you do not dissect their words and look at it closely, as many people will not do, you will look at that and think to yourself “Wow, triple the deaths are a bad thing.”  NO, this is not a bad thing. It just means that triple the amount of people who legally defended themselves will not be charged with a crime for choosing not to be a victim.

Typical liberal spin. If anything, the states that loosen gun control laws tend to have less crime and allows the individual, law abiding citizen more options for protecting themselves and their loved ones.

This is nothing more then the left taking advantage of the Martin-Zimmerman case to drum up emotional support for gun control and to take control away from the states.  The liberals, like the two who are mentioned in this article, Mayor Bloomberg and others, just cannot stand it that law abiding citizens are allowed to defend themselves, or for that matter, vote for themselves.  We the people are not as smart as they are so they must tell us for our own good what do to.

I have said it before and will say it again. Our government needs to be disbanded and restarted the way our Fore Fathers meant it to be. If this means a civil war of sorts, so be it!

Well, it did not take long for them to back out of this mess.

Democrats backed off of their effort Tuesday to offer a "Trayvon amendment" to pressure states to drop their stand-your-ground laws after learning it was likely to be ruled out of order under the evening's rules for debate on the House floor.
