Title: Penn Cinema put up new signs
Post by: oldgraygeek on June 09, 2013, 11:41:42 PM
There's a new sign at the bottom of every door on the front of the Penn Cinema Riverfront IMAX 15... We're really not welcome there anymore:

Of course, the sign does not have force of law, so I'll go in there armed as always.

Anyone with a CCDW who would put themselves and their family at risk by going to Wilmington unarmed...
...should probably stay home and wait for the movie to appear on HBO.

I usually don't see door signs  ;).  But I will just avoid the place out of principle.  I usually try to avoid the cities in general anyway.

It doesn't bother me, less Dodge City.

Lucky for them, most of the Wilmies can't read, either.  Wait, maybe that's unlucky for them.  Well, either way, I'd be so busy looking at other patrons that I'd never notice some @@@@ sign next to the ground.

No, because I don't have (or want) their iPhone app.
Having said that, please add it, for the benefit of others...

If someone gets shot or stabbed at that establishment can the victim sue the place for not insuring that all on their property do not in fact have any of the prohibited items?

I'm sheepishly admitting that I had to google where this was!  I didnt even know they had a theatre there.  ::::::sigh:::::    some help with my cranial rectal inversion maneuver LOL.

And I don't see a sign either.

What a Minute.

Go unarmed to Wilmington? I thought that was a model city like Philadelphia as far as tax paying citizens and informed voters. After all Obama won by the highest percentages in that area....................OK the bourbon wore off. Kilmington is a craphole.

Hawk

I am pretty sure you could not go far with suing from discussions on deloc that people had there. My thought is you should. I do get the whole idea of private property, but I do think they should be held accountable. I also think judges in Jersey and MD who deny permits should be subject to legal suit if a person is mugged or something after being denied their permit.

I don't think the criminals will pay attention to the sign though. I Heard on another board that some companies do this for insurance reasons, but I am not sure of that.

Businesses have a general duty to protect patrons from foreseeable harm.  They don't have a duty to protect you from being the victim of a crime, unless they have some reason to believe that their patrons are the specific targets of the criminal actions.  And even then, everyone is a prospective and potential victim.

Just like you, I tend to think that signs like that are meant to be an assurance that I am entering a "sphere of safety."  Since they can't even guarantee that the movie won't suck, I don't put a lot of stock in their assurances.

So, their premises lability will pay your medical bills, and that's all that you'll probably get.  If you're lucky, they may throw in a free trashcan-sized popcorn.

Another reason I wait for the DVD in addition to how expensive movies have gotten, How bratty some kids can be and parents wont even attempt to control being another.

In places like this, I use my best judgement. My best judgement says watch the movie somewhere else, or if that option is not available, "sorry I didn't see the sign".

we would be glad to watch it somewhere else, but this is the only IMAX within 40 miles... and we refuse to be shut out of it because some hoplophobe posted a meaningless sign (it means nothing to a criminal, or to my lawyer).
We will go there, and we will carry, and they can go &*^*%^ themselves if they don't like it.

Request to talk to the manager, and ask he or she, if they will be respondsible for your safety, since they took your right of self protection away from you.

its behind the blue rocks stadium, next to 95. its so so, but its not Kosovo like these guys make it sound.  my team used to practice at the corner of vandever st and bowers st...that's a location you want to not be in.  3 blocks from t-guards clubhouse in the shadows of gander  google maps street view it...a lot of people carrying there without permits

with all the businesses down there, and high police presence since people eat and socialize there.  personally I would consider it mid-low risk area, granted i'd still carry since its my privilege now to do so

I don't believe I've ever been in a "low-risk area."

Last week I was at Timothy's having dinner.  CC'd there.  Dont care if it's a mid-low risk area.
It's a BEAUTIFUL day when I can put "Joe" away in the same condition (and round count) as I
picked him up in.

Hmm... last I checked it was easier to carry concealed than it is to put a cop in your pocket and carry him/her.  402, while I hear where you're coming from, I dont consider anything that close to or in the city to be "low risk".  I think the point others were making was a) most of us on here won't patronize a business that prohibits concealed carry, and b) there are other areas to go to before we head to the city.  Just our preference.  I'm glad you feel comfortable to do so. Thankfully the only place I've had to go in the city lately is the court house LOL.

Many consider Trolley Square a safe area for bar hopping & eating out. I do remember a woman being shot for not giving up her purse there. Happens everywhere.

Interesting........... Well, upon a rare occasion I did like to visit the Waterfront in Wilmington. It was one of the few places in the city that didn't always give me the feeling like I needed to run as fast as I can out of it.  I suppose that I will just add the Wilmington Waterfront to the "no-normal-humans-there-anymore" list of places not to visit. If they wont' allow me the means to feel safe, then I don't need to be there. I believe that the Federal Reserve Notes in our pockets would probably be better spent elsewhere. And....... As for Wal-Mart, I tried to like that store, find some redeeming quality about it besides cheap junk sold at cheap junk prices. Sorry, I just couldn't become a fan. I won't knock them too hard as they do at least employ a fair number of our neighbors at the southern end of the county. But, I just don't like the store. Dirty, disheveled and the usual 21st century version of customer service...... which is to say non-existent.

Adding on to what Lumspond said.......

Bad things can happen anytime, anywhere to anyone.
Cases in point......
Sandy Hook, Aurora Colorado, Columbia mall in MD, road rage on the highway.......
All nice neighborhoods.......

I live near Townsend and I don't leave the house without carrying.
Now I try to avoid going to Wilmington at all costs, but I love Robino's.  ;D

We had dinner at Columbus Inn last night. Great place with excellent food in a nice upscale neighborhood.

To me, this attracts predators like a watering hole in the desert. After dinner, as we walk out to the Bluesmobile, my head is spinning around trying to look in all directions at once...

Same with me eating at Walter's steakhouse about a month ago. I was on my highest alert, while carrying my 45 and an EDC knife. I was also facing the door while I was eating. Even though I was careful, I still enjoyed dinner with friends.

Sorry to get off topic, but your reply had me thinking... Have you ever watched "MidwayUSA's Best Defense" on The Outdoor Channel? Great show!

I forget to mention that, because it's so automatic for us. My wife is so conditioned to me facing the door that I don't need to remind her: she always leaves me the seat with the best view.

if she sits across the table from you, you are always getting the best view :).  (Works for me).
