Curious as to the benefits (or drawbacks) of joining the NRA. How many of you are members and why or why not? Right now its not something on my "to do" list, but then I decided I dont know enough about it to make a decision one way or the other. I'd like to hear your thoughts.

While there are certain perks i.e. coupons, discounts for one car insurance company... the choice is obviously yours to make.
Bottom line, the NRA has been defending our second amendment rights for a long time now. The more members, the more powerful the group. I just joined not too long ago after years of debating. I get a (very educational) magazine and just the pride of being a member of the NRA. I also get the national gun news via email and Youtube, which tells me what the biased media does not.

Same here
-
Really nice magazines. I've been a member for as long as I can remember and after watching how much work their lawyers put into the Heller v DC case I'm glad I am. No one else is going to stand up for our gun rights like they do
-
So membership entitles you to some form of legal representation? Or you're referring to the fact that these guys have their ducks in a row and can stand behind you (and your lawyer)?
Magazines? Geez.. I guess I'd have to choose which one to read... Martha Stewart or NRA Monthly LOL ;D
-
I don't know that they would represent you unless your case was some how landmark type. But They do alot of lobbying at all levels of goverment in hopes that you won't need representation.
-
I agree with gunenvy on rthe mags. They do have some real nice material.
-
Nicer than Martha?! Are you sure? :-\
-
better than Martha but can't hold a candle to O magazine
-
I dont even touch that magazine.
Martha on the other hand keeps my house running LOL. Just kidding!!! Although I do like her recipes.
-
I like Martha for the centerfolds! Last month they had an orange creme cake laying on a crystal server and, mmmmmmmmmmmm :D

I prefer Rachel Ray
-
Rachel Ray sucks. I cant get past her gratey voice! She reminds me of Joan Rivers in so many ways.
-
Maybe so but her recipes rock
-
How can you stand yourself, Sig. :) Her recipes are ok. Better than some Ive seen out there... but still. ugh.
Its friday and its not 4pm yet. UGH! But it's 5 o'clock somewhere!
-
I can't stand Marthat inside trader stewart. At least Rachel Ray started out as a normal middle classes person with morals
-
I'll give you that one, Sig. Can't say I agree with all her choices.
-
She's not an inside trader. You watch too much news without the research (MSNBC). I'm going to have to bust your @@@ a bit Sat.
She had heard that the company wan't doing very well and sold some of the stock... ironically days before it fell through the floor.
She didn't do anything wrong and nothing we wouldn't have done.
-
Then why did she go to JAIL!!!!!!!!!!
-
The same reason Cheyney and Libby haven't!
-
They are our biggest voice in our 2nd amendment rights. We need the NRA just like they need us. And I love the magazine as well. Please join today!!!
-
Mr. Plasticman is right ,so if you are a gun owner and I have a feeling most of you are .Please join the sooner the better.
Thank you
Gun nut.

Moosie,
There are several other pro-gun groups out there, but none of them have the power of the NRA. I’ve stepped it up from Annual to Life, to Endowment, to Patron, to Benefactor. And they still want more money from me. :'( I’ve disagreed with them on many things, but while many of its members are still splintered, the organization itself pretty much (finally) backs ALL weapons. Bolt actions and Class III are viewed on the same platform. They back national reciprocity, which is a good thing. They have a tremendous amount of resources that are available to you.
I don’t have any of their bumper stickers on my vehicles, I don’t wear any of the clothing that they have given me, I don’t put any signs up in the front yard, and (again) I have not agreed with every decision that they made – but I whole-heartedly support them.

Corbon I agree with you it does drive me nuts that I usually get something in the mail weekly asking for money this does get annoying. But I agree we need to unit and the NRA is the best way to go about it.
