Title: Third Hand Info
Post by: Here4now on May 15, 2014, 02:50:50 PM
I moved to DE from PA about a year ago and have not yet begun the CCW process.

Recently it was mentioned to me that the Sheriff “said” that if my PA LTCF is not yet expired, I would not be required to take the safety course in order to receive my DE CCW permit.

This third hand info doesn’t sound correct to me, especially since PA is not a reciprocal state. I haven’t read this anywhere, so I tend not to believe it.

What say the experts here? True or false?

Sounds incorrect. Read the Superior Court website.

Read the reference to 11 Del C §1441 for the firearms course requirements. PA doesn't require any course.

Nope.

To get a DE CCDW you need to complete 1441 a-j.
When you are ready let me know.

Thanks guys.

It was wishful thinking but I was sure the info was incorrect.

Although I’ve CC’d for over 30 years without incident, I’m not against taking a safety class, as you can always learn something. If it would have been possible, the only reason I would have avoided the class, is the time and additional cost.

Hopefully within the next few months, I’ll begin the process.

Thanks again.

In addition to the training, it also informs you of DE codes and regs. There are many instructors, I took mine through First State Firearms and found it to be very informative.
