Looks like the app is electronic. Never tried until now and it looks like it hasn't been changed. The last option to check is about the reason for carrying, and it requires documented proof of threats, etc. I'm guessing that part will be null and void at some point
Spoke to one of their approved course instructors, apparently they are scurrying trying to figure out what to do either with compliance or work-arounds. I decided to stop the app process. I know Baltimore and probably Annapolis are the ones ruining things for the state, they have a republican governor that shut down more laws before
He also mentioned the might still not even allow out-of-state permitting, or maybe not without some reason to have one in md like living in de but having a business in MD. Seems like the recent ruling should shut that down too, seeing how everyone is free to move from state to state
-
I don’t see anything in the Maryland law that precludes issuance to non residents.
Interesting in that Delaware only issues non resident temporary 30 day permits at the discretion of the AG if the reason is deemed appropriate. Looks like that would be flat out unconstitutional. Because the ruling is also based on the Equal Protection clause I would submit that every state must either issue Non Resident or recognize out of state licenses in the same manner as a drivers license or a marriage license. This is NOT a second class right.
-
And I haven't seen anything about out of state(non) issuance either. The guy told me md doesn't honor any other ccw, which is obvious, but seemed to also think md just straight up wouldn't allow anyone out of state to get one anyway. I really wish the reciprocity bill brought up some years ago could go forward again, but would probably need either supermajority or both houses and pres.
I have family in md and I occasionally spend money in that state so it would be nice to carry. And who wants a wallet full of ccws?

It actually could have happened then. The bill had passed the house, but RINO McConnell wouldn't let it out for a vote in the senate. Trump said that he would sign it if it reached his desk. It was definitely a missed opportunity.

I was born and raised in Maryland on the Eastern Shore, and lived there until I went into the Military at 18. Still have many relatives and friends there. I have never heard of, or known anyone that had a CCW permit there unless they were a State Police Officer or a retired LEO. One of my best friends is a retired MD. LEO and has a permit. As far as I know MD. honors no other states permit and does not issue or accept any non-resident permits. Period.

Sounds like maybe a good start for a lawsuit then?

Where in Maryland law does it state that a “Wear and Carry” permit is not available to non residents?
I understand that the law makes no allowance for recognition of out of state carry licenses.
With the NY case specifically noting the Equal Protection Clause it’s hard to see how non residents could be denied a permit.

I can't find anything, and it would be strange for them to change their current rules to be non-inclusive to out of state when we are talking about a constitutional amendment

I don't think it does. Under current restrictions they would simply deny the application. You have to remember that "self protection" alone was never a good enough reason for granting a permit to a resident.
-
imagine if they can't deny permits after applications due to the scotus ruling, but they can deny applications from out-of-state (or try to)
it's like in boot camp when the DI's could not deny you permission to take a leak, but you had to request permission to speak first. and when they see you doing the PP dance, they deny you permission to speak lol
-
Gun permit issues are handled by the State Police in Maryland. I know several MD State Police officers and the opinion I get from them is they don't think civilians should be able to carry guns at all.
-
i posted this on another thread, but i logged into the md portal and i had a message on 8/2 about my application
the email was in my spam folder, but the title is "MD HGP - Your application has been given a final disposition" and the body basically said the app has been completed by the MSP, and that i'll receive some sort of written notification of the disposition in the mail. i should be getting that any day now since it said 5-7 business days starting last tuesday
-
another update. after going through the portal it does look like my application was approved
although the approval is not the actual card i need to carry around, it is a relief that it went through really without a hitch.

Great news!! What was your accepted date? I think I am about a week behind you.

Accepted 7/12, approved 8/2. No restrictions aside from where you aren't allowed to carry under md and federal laws.
I guess I'm just waiting for the card. Should be coming in the mail 5-7 business days after the 8/2 approval

Oaklandopen:

I guess their printer is only used to like 100 a year, not 10,000 in a month lol

it's official, it came today (in the neighbor's mailbox :-\). he brought it right over and left it inside the storm door
renewal for me will be early 2025

Congrats!
If I still lived in DE, I'd be applying for MD & NJ too.
(sudden realization) I just got back from a few nights in California visiting a friend... I wonder if I can get a CA non-res permit now?

california is not only making it even more difficult/intrusive/expensive to get the permit, but it will also be even more restrictive in where you would be allowed to carry. the list of places you could theoretically carry is actually less than places you can't. normally, it would be a short list of places you can't, like gov't buildings, schools, etc. not in cali. you might be able to take it to your mailbox and back to your house with what they are trying to do
imagine living in a state where all they had to do was change "may" to "shall" after the bruin case, and they make new more restrictive 2A laws
jersey is another place i would gladly go the long way to get around, so i don't have much interest in getting that one. the main states i travel to from DE are PA and MD. i don't have much business in MD but i do have family there so now it's a relief that i don't have to worry about that aspect if i ever have an interaction with law enforcement.

Congratulations. Sure its too early to look for an update on mine.... Feels like I'm waiting for Delaware again.....
-
Took my 2nd day of class Monday and got my certificate today so I just submitted everything.
And now we wait...
-
Just for reference, I submitted my application on 8/19 and it was accepted this morning (8/24).
Looks like Oakland’s took exactly 3 weeks from this point. I’ll let you know how long mine takes.
-
Don't ya just wish Delaware was this fast.....

If you go to the MDShooters forum / Application Progress Thread you can track how these applications are being approved. I submitted and got an acceptance the same day (July 18) my approval was August 16 and the permit was in my mailbox August 20.
-
Friend of mine who is not on here just received md permit
-
i was actually surprised that i received my background check from maryland in the mail. needless to say, it came back clean....a few weeks after i got my permit
-
This thread dried up a bit. I'm assuming everyone who applied was approved?
-
I submitted late and had my application accepted on the 30th of August. I still have about three weeks or so most likely.
Also, this is an interesting thread to follow.

Why bother?? They have outlawed anywhere outside your residence that is allowed. I have no desire to go to New York, so not interested.

I was refering to those that applied for the Maryland permit. By the way, your negativity concerning those that wish to get a permit outside of Delaware doesn't help those that wish to get there's.

I would never stand in anyone's way. I speak my own views. I avoid Chinese junk if possible, and support the NRA, yet I keep getting Chinese junk from the NRA. Mixed message? I was fetched up in Dover when it was a small town. I have grown to miss what I had and hate what Delaware has become, just another 'gimme' blue state. When I was growing up, Delaware ranked #6 in the US economy and we had freedoms. Now we are somewhere around 36 and have lost many freedoms. The powers to be would have us be more like NJ, NY, and CA, or China.
-
I completely agree with you Bill on this. I moved here 28 years ago and now that was a mistake. What I moved away from (PRNJ) they followed me down here. They are bringing their DemCon politics with them. Again, IMHO your post was right on.

Yes he did, but let's not forget those that had the perseverance to bring the suit to the Supreme Court.

Just wanted to give and update on my Maryland license application process:
Submitted: 8/19
Accepted: 8/24
NICS: 10/21
Approved: 10/25
Permit #22HGP-0793xx
I’ve also applied in NJ. Their system is extremely archaic especially compared to MD’s. It was quite a fiasco, but it was finally submitted 10/8. Once they receive it it goes into the ether, no updates or anything. I’m not expecting anything before the end of the year with them.

I honestly haven't considered jersey. Only time I go there is to the aquarium. I think I've gone there 3 times in 4 years. Never go there without a full tank of gas either

Congratulations! I hope your New Jersey comes in soon. According to the law they have 60 days.
A: The application must be approved or denied within 60 days of filing. If the application is not approved or denied within 60 days of filing, it shall be deemed approved by the Chief or Superintendent unless the applicant agrees to an extension of time in writing.

Thanks Clarence!
That’s NJ’s law, unfortunately they don’t seem to be following it (go figure). I’m on another forum and people are up to 90+ days with no movement.
I’ll keep you guys updated on my progress there.

Got my approval today. Now I am just waiting on the card. It will be nice to be able to travel the shore without as much worry now.
-
Congratulations. Sure does make life less complicated for us near the Mason / Dixon Line.
