Looks like theyre trying again..
http://mlis.state.md.us/2012rs/billfile/HB0256.htm
And it appears to have a lot of sponsors this time round.

Great news. I grew up in the same town(althought I have lived in Delaware for over 40 years) as Jeannie Haddaway-Ricco, one of the sponsors of HB 256 in Maryland. I know most of her family. I just finnished emailing her a letter in support of the resiprocity bill now in the MD Legislature. Let's hope something good comes of it.

That's always handy knowing the family! LOL
I'm hoping something comes of it. Got an email back from Gary Slider from handgunlaw.us earlier when I sent him this link...he said they have a pending appeal from a decision that might make MD a "Shall Issue", and if the State loses the appeal (they lost original decision I guess), then it might make the reciprocity easier to pass.
I hope so since I live 5 mins from the border and travel frequently into and through MD. ::Fingers Crossed::

We're about to drive through Maryland the long way (toward Pittsburgh) on the first leg of our trip to Alaska.
Because most of the trip will be spent in Canada, we will of course be unarmed anyway. (If not, we'd take the slightly slower drive through Lancaster to avoid MD altogether).
Because of Maryland's gun laws, we will be careful not to spend a dime there on the way through... although I'll probably take my morning constitutional in (on?) their state, especially if we had Mexican food the night before.
This is how we treat Maryland in general: we live five miles from the border, and we spend no time or money there.

This would be great news. Still have that herpes known as DC though ::)
-
I can't easily avoid MD unfortunately, too many friends and reasons just to stay out. LOL
DC I myself ain't worried so much about, don't visit, don't stop, and always try to drive around anyways. I'd love to see MD (and SC) get reciprocity with either my DE or FL permits. Preferable DE. I drive about once a year to FL with my family, and TN, NC, MD, VA, & PA for truck shows with my friends. I'm covered in and through most of those already. I'd like to see NJ improve (yeah, right!) as we have a family vacation home in Cape May County.

Bad news for MD HB 256. I received notice from Del. Haddaway-Ricco that the bill to give Delaware permit holders reciprocity in MD died in the MD Judiciary Committee (again). End of story, till it can be re-introduced in the next MD session of the Legislature. This bill had 40 sponsors. It will surely be brought back up. The battle will only be lost if we give up and no longer fight.

Thought I'd pass along the note I received from Del. Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio of MD.
Thank you very much for your message and for your support on this issue. We have been trying for several years to get this bill passed and unfortunately have not been able to do so. Our efforts are continuing though through a lawsuit pending in Maryland. The Second Amendment Foundation is challenging Maryland's permit process which requires you to have a good and substantial reason to get a permit to carry. We are hoping that the court will rule in favor of SAF which would in turn open up an opportunity for us to deal with the reciprocity issue. We had a good initial ruling, but the case is now headed to the Fourth Circuit. Here is a link to more info:

I would be happy to keep you posted if you would like. Thanks again for taking the time to write.
Sincerely,
Jeannie

Oh phooey...that sux. Oh well, thanks for the info, Sturm, and sending a note to the Delegate. Seems first time, a handful of sponsors, this time 40+...if SAF wins the lawsuit (that's a whole other interesting read
BTW)...I definitely see them trying again and wouldn't surprise me even more sponsors.

With the make up in the Gov's mansion and the legislature, I am surprised we have not gone backwards in 2nd Ammendment rights. A couple of Markell's plans were not well received, fortunately.
-
@sturm - if you do keep following this, please keep us apprised. thanks!

Any further attempts to get a reciprical with MD. will have to wait for the next session of the MD general assembly. It would be great if MD, DE, VA all had recips.
