I always carry at least one spare, most times two.

The speed strips are easy, theyre only about 2inches long and only weigh the sum of 5 rounds of 38. The spare mag can be alittle more difficult but a 1911 mag is pretty flat so it can go anywhere and not stand out too bad.

When carrying a Glock 23, I have one spare. When I carry a 1911, I have 2 spares. www.comp-tac.com makes some great holsters and mag pouches.

None. I figure if I ran out , one of us is dead or a lousy shot.  Most contests occur at less than 15', often less that 5'.  I am trained, they usually are not.  If I am out of ammo, someone is lying on the ground.

Actually, I carry a Smith bodyguard 38(hollow points) most of the time.  I have a speed loader, but it is not usually close by.

I carry two spare mags for my 1911.  "What if the magazine in the gun malfunctions".  Any time I can top off my weapon I will, better to have 9 rounds in the firearms than just one.  Just because the shooting has stopped doesn't always mean the threat is over. Better to have more ammo than the Bad Guy.

That!

As as side note, I haven't heard of anyone coming out of a gunfight wishing they had less ammo  ;D

Still learning here, but my G26 which carries 10+1 is usually sitting in my Crossbread Supertuck. I ALWAYS carry a spare G19 mag which holds 15. Usually the spare is in a cargo pocket and not a problem. Once its cooler, it'll go in an inside coat pocket I think. Hopefully, neither will ever need to be used, but, I too, would hate to think I may need another mag, and not have one!

I'm considering having another mag or two in my car, G17's=33 rounds!, which may be available to restock in a major incident. Just a thought.

Take care all, Pete D.---

I've been experimenting with just dropping a 15 or 17 round mag (9mm) in my back pocket.  I've found I never even think about it being there.  It's working just fine.

I carry a Glock 29 with one spare mag.
(In the trunk, I have a M1A and four spare 25-round magazines, but I'm not sure that counts).

Hadn't thought of carrying a rifle in the trunk before. Food for thought.
