Title: Found old Browning .22 Rifle- help?
Post by: Thlax on December 24, 2012, 07:36:40 PM
My uncle purchased a property in PA and in the attic found a nice old Browning rifle in .22. I wanted to have it cleaned up/ inspected to get it to an operational condition.

Any recommendation on where to take it ? Anything I need to do from a legal stand point?

I believe it was manufactured before 1974 I was told? Looks to be in great shape. Thoughts?

Thanks for any help-

David

Clean it well and check it out yourself, see if it cycles ammo.  If not then I would get it inspected.

As for a legal stand, it came with the property.

What model is it?

There is no gun registration in PA or DE, so the rifle is now yours, or your uncles (if you want it). You can transport it unloaded and locked in your trunk from PA to DE. Call the local gun stores (X-Ring Supply) to see if they can have a look, if you don't have the experience or time to disassemble it yourself.

You can check the production dates using the serial # here: http://www.browning.com/customerservice/dategun/detail.asp?id=5

pretty cool rifle, can't believe I've never seen one before, apparently they've made over 500,000 of them.   A tiny bit of info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Browning_22_Semi-Auto_rifle    and a manual here: http://media.browning.com/pdf/om/22semiautomanual.pdf

After seeing the photos, I don't think you will have any worries about shooting it. Pristine condition. Take it to the range and enjoy it. Want to sell it? First dibs. I love shooting .22LR rifles. That is pretty!

I stole the "I'm not a lawyer" bit from OldGray. Credit where credits due.
