I was listening to the speech yesterday by the President given on the anniversary of the 13th amendment which abolished slavery.
I'm wondering if anyone else caught this statement:
"...Newly freed slaves may have been liberated by the letter of the law, but their daily lives told another tale. They couldn’t vote. They couldn’t fill most occupations. They couldn’t protect themselves or their families from indignity or from violence. "
So it was important that former slaves could protect themselves from violence but it is now not important that the rest of us be able to protect our families. Remember this line when you get into discussions with anyone in the anti-2A crowd.
