CCW questions
« on: January 19, 2013, 10:02:02 PM »
Hi all,

Ok after reading the CCW Process its says to take the class after you get your CCW permit ?
In NY you are required to take a class before even applying for a permit, I guess it saves you from spending more money if you are rejected.
Also your references could they be anyone within your County ?
Last thing is roughly $65 for permit $69 for finger printing and $10-$15 for photos & placing add depends where but lets say $70 is that all up front ?
Could the Dover post be used for my area ? I guess a call to them wouldn't hurt to see what they would charge, does anyone have any idea on that ?
Thanks for your help and comments in advance,

Joe

JoeP,
If you know you're background check will be clean, it saves time to take the class first, and include the certificate with your app. If not, then apply first. The five references have to be from your county, and not relatives. The longer they've known you the better it looks. All those costs are up front, however you can take your own passport style photo and have it printed at the drug store. Save $10. I would call the Dover Post.

For the class I used Dave Johnson in Bear. Was $150 a number of years ago.

The Dover Post is good for Kent County and is cheaper than the Delaware State News. Make sure you use reputable people as references. No sense anyone that has a record or is a drunk driver. The longer you know them the better.

Thank you, well the wife is #1 of course then I have at least 1-2 neighbors and and my old employer. I wonder if a local police officer will do and an retired State trooper :)
I'll call the Dover Post and see what they charge.

JoeP,
References can not be related to the applicant. So you can't use your wife.

The newspaper will already have the form to fill out. Just add your personal information. Went I went to the News Journal, the receptionist had the forms.

Just a help hint, I got my picture taken at Rite-Aid in Georgetown, here is the difference, the girls there if you tell them it is for CC they will make you pictures almost 1 1/2, they step back 7 steps. I had the first done at Walgreens and the only do passport pictures which I think comes out to big even if you cut it down.

Thank you I went to Walgreens $10.99 but I didn't measure them yet. I'll have to look at them and see what size they actually are.

Costco does a pretty good job on the 1-1/2" square photos, if you're a member.

I had my wife take mine against a blank wall with my cell phone. She had to take 3 pictures to get the size good enough to cut down to required size. Then I emailed it to myself and printed it out. Cut to size and "shazam", done. Total cost.........$0.00

Prothonitary accepted with no problem. She said it was perfectly fine.
