Provided by Newark, Calif.-based SST, the technology uses sound sensors to find the origin of a gunshot within a few feet. ShotSpotter then sends an instant alert to dispatchers and patrol cars.

They are planning to supplement the system soon with Sh*tSpitter, which will spray a smelly brown preservative coating onto the corpses identified by ShotSpotter so the Wilmington police will be able to finish their donuts and coffee before responding to detected gunfire. The system will double as the city's primary means of releasing "news" to local "journalists."

So, they'll be able to tell what block the shot came from, but when the cops arrive, no one saw anything.  Perfect.. so they're wasting $400k + to have the same results they do now.  Nice.  makes sense to me
