Any hassles after CCW for a while?
« on: March 18, 2013, 01:01:10 AM »
Submitted my paperwork in January in NCC so I probably still have a considerable wait, but have been wondering if those that have carried concealed for a while have any stories for us noobs to learn from?

Always copy everything you put into it.
Fill everything out on your renewal,  just like the original.   they dont' remember you, .  and when they have to call.      This just upsets them.

Once you have your DECCW, make sure and use it. Carry always. And remember what you see here a lot, concealed means concealed. Not reason to open carry anymore. Get use to carrying. I carry all day everyday, even on Sunday to church. There are no days off for self protection.  Just my 2 cents.

It is called "concealed carry" for a reason.  No one knows but you.  If you act nervous, others will pick up on it.  If you want to scare people, do open carry.........

Steve

I would bet that you will change your mind a bunch (about what you thought you knew) after discussing CCDW with members of this forum!  This is the closest to actuall deliberations that can be had!

I suggest while you are waiting for your CCW, that you wear your gun concealed all the time around home to get use to the feel and get comfortable, so when your permit comes and you go out you won't be tugging at your gun amd feeling uncomfortable with it. You will find that you may be wearing clothes different and may need a bigger belt. 1 1/2 inch wide belt should be minumum. If you wear IWB holster you may need bigger pants, and make sure your shirt is big enought to cover gun when reaching up with hands/arms.

Thanks.  I have already started to wear around the house to get used to it and already get the whole adjusting pants part.  It is getting comfortable.  Unfortunately, I probably have a couple months more time to practice unless I head to a FL reciprocity state since FL is quicker to respond on an non-resident than Delaware on a Resident permit.

Get an elastic belt for IWB carry. Get a handgun that is COMFORTABLE to carry. IF it is not comfortable you will not carry it. Do not allow the handgun to (print) be seen by others. After you get used to carrying, it will be like your cell phone, you won't want to leave home without it.

The worst 'last thoughts' you could have:
"I wish I had my gun."
"I wish I had enough gun."
"I wish I had enough ammo."
"I wish I had practiced more."

And, for those less terminal situations:
"I should have chosen & contacted a lawyer before that guy tried to rob me."
"I wish I had kept my mouth shut after that defensive gun use, like my lawyer and all the guys on the DECCW forum told me to."
"If I hadn't given that aggressive driver the finger, he wouldn't have run me off the road... I wouldn't have had to shoot him... and I wouldn't have been sued for a million dollars because of that anti-gun witness and their $%$&*% cellphone video."

If you weren't already a pessimist, you wouldn't have applied for a CCDW permit. Don't give up on your pessimism. Assume that bad things will happen, and don't make them even worse.
