I am applying for my permit and very familiar with pistols.
Can some who carries a 1911 style pistol weigh in on carring one. I know it must be whats call cocked and locked . Round in the chamber on safe.

I carry a SA TRP on condition 1 daily. The advantage of a 1911, IMO, over a double action is on the predictability and consistency of the trigger pull. A double action will give you a heavy pull for the first shot and lighter subsequent ones. A 1911 will give you the same nice trigger pull regardless if the first, sencond or last.

I carry a Kimber Super Ultra, weighs in at 25oz. carry it in a Galco IWB. Some times feels a little heavy, but you get use to it. I also carry in Condition 1.

I carry the Dan Wesson Guardian in the Nate Tactical holster. Lightweight, accurate, comfortable and predictable!

I am unfamiliar condition 1 or the use of the Term.
Please explain. I wood rather carry a Colt style 1911 45.

Condition 1 on a 1911 style pistol is; round in chamber, hammer cocked, mechanical safety on, hence the term " Cocked and Locked"
I carry that way and I am sure others will agree as well.

I carry daily a Para LDA (Light Double Action). 6lbs of trigger pull. Granted it is fairly long trigger pull.
Personally IMHO, if the SHTF and the fur starts flying, I dont think anyone will notice the weight of a trigger.
Casual shooting, YES.

The problem is not noticing the weight or not, but the inconsistence - first pull is 6lb then 4lb...pretty hard to get muscle memory around that IMO. If the first pull is 6lb and all pulls after that are 6lb, great.

I have had some Standard 1911 45's and a few Gold Cups and even a Steve woods custom.
I think I will lean towards a 1911 style pistol.
Carry it in condition 1

As a prior match shooter, trigger consistancy is everything. But I can work around a double if I practice through it.

Love my Dan Wesson! I carried a Glock before, but this is so much thinner and it stays put with that holster. The perfect set up.

I have owned and shot 1911's for fifty years, and am a big fan of them. However, I believe that the newer striker fired pistols are the way to go, for concealed carry. They are safe, reliable and carry nearly double the ammunution.

What I recommend, you may not like. Shoot several different pistols and make your own choice. Shooter's Choice near Cheswold, De., and other shops will rent "try" guns. Personnally, after trying S&W, Sig, Glock, and others, I opted for the Springfield XDM 3.8 compact. I have two, one in 9mm, the other in .45. I am very happy with my choice, they conceal well, fit my hand well, are accurate, shoot hollow points well, and after many rounds, I have had no malfunctions.

I've been looking at that Dan Wesson Guardian myself as a first 1911. Friend out west has one and cant stop talking about it :)

As Joet stated its a personal thing. I disliked Sig, S&W are over priced IMO but have a few, never got on the Glock band wagon though I'd buy 2 17s if I found them for cheap.
What I fell in love with were the Walther PPS and PPQ striker fired pistols. The PPS is about as perfect as you can get IMO as a small ccw. I prefer the larger PPQ myself as the darn thing simply puts a hole where ever I look. It's got a lightening fast action trigger at about 5lbs with a 1/8" reset! Both fit the hands better then anything else I've picked up and fired. We went 9mm due to cost per round which allows much more range time but they are both available in 40 as well. Bought the PPS locally and overpaid of course and the PPQ from Buds.
I shoot at Shooters Choice, Dover mostly as I'm in the Middletown area. I've never seen either available to rent there but let me know in the new year if you'd like to give them a try and we can set something up.

Adrenolin: My son has the PPQ in 40 and I agree, the trigger is the best of ALL striker fired. Grip is excellent.
BigdogDE: I have been CC the XDS for a month now and mates with my clothing much better than my Glock 19 main carry. I did add a Pierce mag ext for my pinky and Talon rubber grips. Fun gun to shoot but need to holster after 50 as accuracy begins to suffer.

I don't carry my 1911 with regularity, but I have a Sig 1911, and prefer it over a DA pistol just because of the consistency of the trigger pull.
