What Is DHS Up To?
« on: January 27, 2013, 11:55:37 AM »
If you recall last year DHS ordered over a half billions rounds of .40 S&W. Now they are branching out to buy 7000 5.56x45mm NATO “personal defense weapons.”

Quote
The scope of this contract is to provide a total of up to 7,000 5.56x45mm North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) personal defense weapons (PDW) throughout the life of this contract to numerous Department of Homeland Security components. …

It gets better.

Quote
DHS and its components have a requirement for a 5.56x45mm NATO, select-fire firearm suitable for personal defense use in close quarters and/or when maximum concealment is required.

Yes, that's right "suitable for personal defense" and "select fire."

They aren't finished yet, they also want 30 round magazines.

Quote
The action shall be capable of accepting all standard NATO STANAG 20 and 30 round M16 magazines (NSN 1005-00-921-5004) and Magpul 30 round PMAG (NSN 1005-01-576-5159). The magazine well shall be designed to allow easy insertion of a magazine.

It needs to be pointed out that, except for the select fire, this is the exact type of weapon the government and its media puppets claim has no purpose for self defense.  They say you do not need a 30 round magazine for self defense but that is what they want for themselves.

Looks like the deck is being stacked against us.

Magpul, Colt, Ruger, S&W, Glock, etc, etc wouldn't it be sweet if they ALL stood up and said no to military & government contracts to make a national point. Tell them to go pound sand. I don't see it happening, however one could dream.

At least they will do it smartly.  Only scissors that look threatening, such as black or folding handles or anodized blades, will be banned.

Existing scissors will be grandfathered in, but you will need to keep them at least 20 feet from any paper products.

It's getting better. If this report is to be believed DHS ordered another 200,000 rounds and awarded the bid to a company that was formed 5 days before the bid went out.
Quote
Not only is the reason for the agency’s stockpiling of nearly 2 billion rounds of ammo shrouded in mystery, but so too is the Evian Group. James Smith of Prepper Podcast did an investigation into the company and found some odd facts which he reported in an article on Thursday.

For one, “It seems that the Evian Group was formed on December 12, 2012, just 5 days before the announcement of the solicitation,” writes Smith.

The price that the agency paid for the rounds is suspect too, according to Smith.

“The contract for 200,000 rounds was $45,758, which boils down to about $0.21 per round. And to be quiet (sic) honest, that (is) a really good price. As in, unheard of good price.”

The Department of Homeland Security is set to purchase a further 21.6 million rounds of ammunition to add to the 1.6 billion bullets it has already obtained over the course of the last 10 months alone, figures which have stoked concerns that the federal agency is preparing for civil unrest.
Quote
To put that in perspective, during the height of active battle operations in Iraq, US soldiers used 5.5 million rounds of ammunition a month. Extrapolating the figures, the DHS has purchased enough bullets over the last 10 months to wage a full scale war for almost 30 years.
