Hi All,

I wanted to let you know who I am.  I am a USAF Vet, transplanted in Dover by Uncle Sam in 1979.  I was in Security Police, a Carpenter and went into the USAF reserve as a production control specialist.  After a while I tired of the politics and got out.  While in the AF I met a local girl from Maine, Arizona, Hawaii, Germany, and Dover. (She was an AF Brat) We were married in July of 1981.  After I left the USAFR I started selling cars.  After a little over 15 years of that I went to work at DART driving a Paratransit bus.

While in the USAF, there was a Gun Club.  The Eagle Wing Gun Club, which I was a range official.  We sponsored many event like combat shoots, bowling pin matches. and so on.  Lots of fun.

Which brings me to now.  I started the process for a CCDW about three months ago.  I have the five references, have taken the CCDW course, now all I need is to be fingerprinted, the newspaper ad, pictures, and for it to be filed.  All the easy stuff is done.  The newspaper ad is the one that scares me.  If there is someone out there with a grudge against you they can try to destroy you because of a little ad in the newspaper.

I started this process with my son and brother-in-law.  It helps to take some of the fear away when there are other in the boat with you.  We are making the application to protect ourselves.  Things are getting crazy out there.

By now you are tired of reading about me so I'll stop the agony.

Thanks

Danny  (N3WCB)

Hi Danny, welcome aboard!

The newspaper ad can be a bit scary, and for me it wasn't the issue of others holding a grudge against me as I figure most people are lazy anyway, LOL, but more the fact that it was a big advertisement saying, "Hey, Here's where I live, and I have guns..."  If I were a criminal and needed to steal a gun, I could pick up a local newspaper and use the "Notices" section as a virtual "phone book" for gun owners... ;)  With so many other states moving to "Shall Issue", it's possible that antiquated requirement will be tossed out before too long anyway.  On the other hand, in some respects I hope things stay the way they are now... Most of the other "Shall Issue" states get a LOT more restrictions about things than we do here, yet the process really is treated more like shall issue than may issue, so it's kinda the best of both worlds.

Anyway, welcome to the site!  It can be a bit slow around here at times, and I haven't been around too long myself, but everyone on here is a pretty good group of guys and gals, so I'm sure you'll find it quite a nice place to visit occasionally!

Welcome, Danny!

Ok, I admit... I look through the CCW section of the paper but I'm always trying to guess if you're someone on the boards! LOL  I wouldn't worry about it.  Criminals don't typically put that much thought behind going and stealing a gun... they can get them on the black market pretty cheap and a lot easier than getting caught in your house where you might have other guns and be willing to use them!

Welcome OM!

I did not like the ad part either.  But we all HAD to do it.  Hopefully the Dover Post or some smaller paper will be ok with them.  I had to use the News Urinal....

I do believe I was the last lucky man in Sussex County to get away with only putting my town in. I'd gotten a quote for the cost of the ad, and the next day the paper called me back to say the AG had just told them all CCW ads now had to have the WHOLE address (i.e. cost more too!)!! I called the Proth, and she got a special OK from the Judge to allow me not to have to add my street address since I already had a quote. LUCKY me for ONCE!! She made a point to make sure I understood that I got lucky, and that no one else would get a wavier- so sorry to all after me that had to put in the full address! In my job, even saying my town SUCKS!! I guess if they know your packin' it might make them think twice anyway! Good luck to you Danny. Take care, Pete D.---

Welcome!

The paper thing stinks.  It only took One person to notice it at my wife's work and then the entire office new of my intent.  Oh well.
