Title: Anyone have experience with a Glock 36?
Post by: oldgraygeek on January 21, 2012, 10:40:19 AM
I carry a Glock 29, and we also have a Glock 20. I like everything about them... except their thickness. It's a lot to conceal.
I could go with a 26/27, but they're not all that much thinner.

Has anyone owned a Glock 36? I'm thinking about going the single-stack .45 route.

As you might guess, I'm biased in favor of the good ole American made Ruger. I would suggest that you test fire either and Ruger SR9c or SR40c before assuming a Glock is the way to go. They are designed for conceal carry, made in Arizona, and rated very high. I tried Glock, and Taurus, and liked the Ruger better. I bought the SR9, the big brother of the SR9c. I love it. Never had a problem.

I've owned two Rugers, a P97 and a P345. While both were decent pistols, I found that my Glocks were more reliable.
The P97 would fail to feed about one round in 100. The P345 was a bit better, but it would jam up at least once per range trip.

(The best thing about that experience: my wife demanded a revolver. Now she has two revolvers, and I sleep well knowing they'll fire).

OldGray,
How about the HK45C? Ha! I'm a Sig/HK guy. Nothing against Glock's, just haven't owned one yet.
Hopefully you will get a reply on the Glock 36.

I need to take a look at the HK.

We stopped by X-Ring today, but they didn't have a G36 in stock to hold. Good thing, too, as I probably would have bought it.  ;)

OldGeay,
I Love my full size HK45. Seems the compact model is quite popular.

Ruger,
What's your opinion of the Ruger SR40C, 40 cal, 15+1? I've seen it for $380.
Is it too large for a pocket carry? I currently carry a Sig P232, 380. I want to skip 9mm and go right to 40 cal. It's between the that and the HK USP compact V-1, 40 cal, 12 +1 for ~$780
Decisions......I need to go hold a bunch of pistols.

Well, Mrs. Geek made it clear today that I can either have a new gun, or a new one of these (http://www.fleet.chrysler.com/fleetcda/portal?pageid=dbbe365479fe6110VgnVCM100000e9261c35RCRD&sectionid=fb66cce1be7f5110VgnVCM10000091f4e735RCRD&ptitle=Charger%20Police), but not both.
Since I hope never to need a gun, but would get to use that every day, I think I'll settle for my current (entirely adequate) armament.  8)

Lumspond,
The SR40c is a cnocealed carry version of the the big brother SR40, just as the SR9c is the CC version of the larger SR9. The "c" designates concealed carry application. Both are rated excellent. Just depends on if you perfer 9mm or 40cal.
As i've said I have the SR9 ($484.00) and love the feel and balance. All a matter of perference I guess. I suggest you find out but hands on use at a store with a range. If they want to sell it , they will let you fire one.

Had a G-36 and loved it.  Traded it some years ago for another gun and regretted it ever since.  It packs the firepower of a full sized 1911 but in a compact Glock.  Gotta love them G-Locks.

Ifthe Glock 36 is going to be a carry gun, you may want to see if you can find a good holster.  I have a friend that had a Glock 36 and could not find a decent holster for it.  He opted to sell it and purchase a Smith & Wesson M&P Compact in 40S&W.  He says it was a good choice to sell the Glock 36.

I shot one yesterday at Targetmaster. I liked it, but it's exactly the same length and height as my Glock 29, and only about 1/8" thinner.
Besides, I just placed the order ;D for a 2012 Dodge Charger Pursuit, so that takes care of my new gun budget for a few years.

They will sell it to fleet customers, so I became one.
