Delaware - Virginia now reciprocal
« on: July 10, 2009, 07:07:43 PM »
I just checked the Delaware Attorney General's website and discovered Virgina permits are now being recognized. I also checked the Virginia State Police website and found that Delaware permits are now honored here as well.

This news has made my day! As a former resident of Delaware (60 years) I visit frequently and was about to apply for a Florida non resident permit even if it required a 3 month minimum delay.

Hey Quickdraw thanks for the update, I'm glad that Delaware is still adding more states for us to carry in even with Biden as the AG this is a real plus.

I can't seem to find much on it now as the Delaware AG's office now shows the current reciprocity agreement with Va. I imagine that a google cache search would show it being there one day and when it was removed.

We referenced it on our website's blog back in October. Somewhere between October 14 and January 5, it was observed the reciprocity with Virginia was removed from the AG site. It was obviously more than 3 days, but it was a very short time. It kind of just showed up one day and was gone the next time that you looked for it, hence the "3 day" comment.

This did happen last October. It lasted for about 10 days. Every couple of days I check for updates on VA State Police website and also  www.handgunlaw.us. handgunlaw.us is very prompt and accurate with their updates.

I live in PA...and am thinking about getting my non-resident VA permit so that I can carry in DE.  DE isnt one of those states that only acknowledges resident permits are they?  In other words do i have to be a VA resident for DE to recip?

I've never seen anything that says it can't be a out of state permit. Why do you want to get an out of state VA permit. FL or Utah would give you a lot more states to carry in.

Basically, its because i currently dont have any "formal" training....ie. NRA courses or hunter safety classes...so my plan was to take one of the online courses that VA accepts...

However, i registered on NRA.com for an NRA Basic class for Sept 19...just waiting to hear from the instructor...once i have that then FL becomes an option.  I'd really like to get UT...as renewals only cost $10...but that UT class is a little harder to schedule... :-[ :-[

I've heard, but don't know for positive, that even if you have a CCW from a state the Delaware accepts you still need the course. Before you bank on the VA permiy check to see if you need the class still.
Honey I swear I've had that gun for years!

Never heard that GunEnvy, but it is definitely something to look into. I always thought it was as long as you had the permit that's all that matters.
