CCW = No Open carry?
« on: July 28, 2009, 01:50:05 PM »
I read on another forum that when you apply for your CCW in Delaware, you give up your right to open carry.  Is that right?  I carry through HR 218 so I am unfamiliar with this particular point. ???

The way I had heard it was that aslong as you have your permit on your person you can not open carry but aslong as you don't have it with you then you can. Maybe one of the guys that do training can let us know exactly.
Honey I swear I've had that gun for years!

The other forum is an opinion forum associated with the Delaware State News.  It is under the topic "Return of the gun grabbers" so it is probably more opinion than fact.

I agree with you about concealed carry, but you made a few mistakes that may lead those not versed on the subject in the wrong direction.  CCP should be CCDW in Delaware and as one MUST carry concealed if they have a CCDW, they can not, by law, take advantage of the open carry available to most Delaware citizens.  When you apply for a CCWD, you sign away the right to carry openly.  HOWEVER, it is against the law to have a deadly weapon in your possession.  You probably will not spend much time in jail, but you should know that you tell the cop "yes sir" and hope the judge is a reasonable man.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and call BULL feces on this guy. I have never heard of this and I'm gonna bet our OC members would agree with me on this that their is no law that states if you have your CCW permit you may not open carry since I know for a fact that quite a few of the OC folks also have their permits.

By using that logic, if you have a motorcycle endorsement on your drivers license then you can not ride a bicycle.  Then again, stranger laws exist.

I would venture to guess that this is the issue of flashing being misconstrued.
Very few guns are actually "illegal guns."  A gun misappropriated by a criminal is no more of an "illegal gun" than a stolen car is an "illegal car."
