Title: Let the waiting game begin!
Post by: joek on December 05, 2011, 07:54:50 PM
I submitted everything including my training certificate to NCC in person 11/29/11.  Clerk just said be patient!  It's takes months.

Nice !  I got my FL permit in 15 business days - that includes mail time.

I am still debating if I should get FL or PA to cover PA.  I only travel by plane to FL.  Drive into PA.   Anyone have an options?

Joek,

I'd consider whether or not you'll be taking a firearm with you to FL when you fly.  If so, you're going to need FL anyway.  To me? I'd do both if I thought I was going to fly to FL often enough.  Another consideration for FL... if you're going on vacation -- are you even allowed into Disney with your pea shooter?  To me? just another hassle.  When I fly, even if I can carry - I usually dont.  ** depends on where I'm going.

Since PA is close and is fairly cheap, I'd be getting PA as well.  If you get pulled over in PA, it's going to go over smoother than you pulling a FL permit out and trying to explain to the nice officer that you have reciprocity there.

Just my .02.

Have family in Florida, so I applied there (10 days ago). They already have my application in process.

I also plan on getting the PA permit, following Moosie's logic.

I've been pulled over in PA while armed (and driving way too fast).
I gave my permit to the officer with my license. He asked me where my gun was, gave the permit back to me, and wrote me a much cheaper ticket than I deserved.

I was @@@@ glad to have an actual PA LTCF in my wallet, instead of another state's permit.

Guess I'll get FL and PA once my DE shows up.

You can submit your documentation for FL at any time....No need to wait for your DE.

PA does require your DE however...

I'll be down in FL next week and I'll get it done down there.

PA only, if it were me.  PA is what 20-25 dollars for 5 years.  FL is 117 for 7 years and renewals are the SAME 117 for 7.
Your DE will cover you in FLA when you get it.  Put the almost 100.00 you same into ammo and practice more....

Just called the FL office and got the message that my CCW License has been processed and mailed. I mailed the FL application on 12/6, so that's pretty quick, give the holidays.

I'm expecting DE sometime in March.

Just got a call from the AG's office. Since I listed self-employed, they wanted to double check that I have a business license. Everything else was in order.

So that's progress.

Ok, so that's just about 7 weeks from the time you submitted until the time the AG's office looked at it - correct ?  Mine took about 6 weeks or so to reach the same point.

Still waiting...  Today is exactly three months from the date of submission.  Nothing in the mailbox as of today.   I guess I would have received a denial letter if that were to be the case.  Does anyone have the phone number readily available to check on my permit for New Castle County?

Good luck. I asked the clerk while standing in the NCC prothonotary's office (wife was filing her paperwork) and all I got was a shrug.

I have these numbers listed as for the prothonotary's office.
(302) 255-0690
(302) 255-0700
Mine took 17 weeks both times.

I submitted my app. on Dec. 19th and received my permit on Feb. 9th. That's about 8 weeks in Kent County. All I's dotted and t's crossed. Clean and legible. Good detailed explaination as to why I needed permit.

I turned in all completed paperwork on 4/20.  I was joking with the KC workers that I expect to hear from them from in the next 2 weeks to 6 months.  They laughed and said that was about right!

Status update:  About a month ago I received a letter DE DOJ stating that they are recommending my permit be denied for alcohol abuse and poor judgment.  This is all stemming from an incident that happened over 6 years ago when I was intoxicated and was arrested for public intoxication and incident exposure for a late night skinny dip swim in my private community pool.  All charges were dropped.  No fines or court charges.  Since that incident I have self-referred myself to an alcohol addiction treatment center for the cost of $30,000 and I have been in recovery and sober for about 1 year and a half.  I am active in several 12-step based recovery groups.  I have not received a denial letter from the judge as of the mail yesterday.  I called for a status update today and they took my name and number to call me back in an hour.  That was about an hour ago.  No return call yet.  So the odds look like that I will be denied.  I am going to appeal the decision once I receive word.  Does anyone have an suggestions on an attorney to use?

I received a call back!  My application still has not yet been denied.  I was informed that if the judge does ultimately deny my application that because my record is clean and it's been quite some time that 9 times out of 10 once the judge meets/sees in person that I will be approved.  Anyone have any thoughts on this?  What should I say to the judge besides being 100% honest with him or her?

Joe, sometimes repeated status checks can get paperwork shuffled deeper.  It will happen or it will not.  Hopefully all will be well.  But it is in bigger hands than ours.

So the mail comes today (Saturday) and what's in the mailbox? My wife's new CCW permit!!!!

She handed in her paperwork in February!! I handed mine in on November 29th; still no permit.

I was told on the phone that both were approved and to expect them in a few weeks, but this still burns me up. I'm happy for the wife but can you imagine these same folks handling health care?

This past Tuesday was exactly 26 weeks (yes exactly half a year).

Congrats Bogey. Wife got hers after 15 weeks. Now that I'm over the anger of having waited 26 weeks, I'm sure mine is coming next week (was told they were both approved at the same time).

FINALLY!!!

Went to the mailbox today and there is was. It only took over 27 weeks, 193 days to be exact.

Now its off to get the PA permit.

One thing that struck me was how badly the permit was laminated. It was horribly skewed so I took some scissors and had to trim off the excess and "straighten" it. For that long a wait, they could have at least gotten it straight. Amazing how cheesy it looks compared to the Florida CC permit, which looks exactly like a typical driver's license (single piece of plastic with the photo printed on the plastic).

Watch out on 896: it does enter Maryland for about 500 feet of roadway, right at the Little Egypt Road intersection.

I've been doing quite a bit of riding up in that area.  Really is a pretty ride, especially in early summer.  Now if you apply up in Lancaster and get your non-resident permit, will that cover you for the entire state including Philly?  Sorry if it's a brilliant question.  I just hear people applying so many different counties in PA and just not sure why?  Do they process differently county to county up there as well?

Any county you get a PA LTCF from covers the whole state of PA including Philthy

I have received my hearing notice for the end of August.  I have everything in order to tell the judge.  I am going to honest and open with him/her.  If they deny my permit here I'll just switch my driver's license to Florida since I am there more than half the year anyway and be legal again.  I have my Florida, Maine, and NH permits already.

Game over!   I had my hearing and the judge said.........APPROVED!   I also sat in on several others appeals.  Very interesting stuff and learned a lot listening to the other appeals.

I did not have an attorney and I was 100% honest with the judge.
