No because everyone gets their permits at different times, so they expire at different times

So if i get my permit on 12/31 of any given year, its just like having it on 5/31 of that same year, so you get cheated out of 6 months?

They all expire on 5/31, Two years (now five) from when it was issued. Yes, depending when you get your permit you can be shorted some time. If you were to get your permit in october 2008 it expires tomorrow, 18 mos later.

Well no wonder they get so backed up!   :-\

Guess when they planned that out they didn't expect so many to be issued?  They should expire 2 (5) yrs from date of issue so that they are spread out throughout the year.   ;)

With the new $65.00 permit, isn't the initial a 3 year term?  THEN, 5 for renewals???

The "OLD" permits were 2 then 3.

Yes. My renewed permit expires May 31st, 2015.
After the cliffhanger this time around, I'll be filing my renewal the first Monday of that year.

and what's the point to 3 then 5?  Why not just go straight to 5?

Oldgreygeek, I filed mine on the first Monday in January and had to wait until the second week in May. From what I understand its all the luck of the draw.

Permit finally arrived today.  I had spoken with Sandy at the Prothonatary's office, she was very helpful and I beleive that is the reason why I finally got my permit.  It was held up in the AG's Office.  I hope that we can get this process streamlined.

I'm still waiting for mine too, I got a call from a DOJ investigator yesterday from the AG"s office telling me one of my ref's refused to answer the phone and refused to call back after 3 messages were sent, so now i have to send up a new ref and wait even longer...I guess they were trying to contact this ref since 8/1...Great ref he was...and to make it worse, the ref told me he talked to them already...Come on now whose lying? The ref of DOJ, I'm leaning towards the ref, but he still swears he talked to them....Learning that this has held me up for an entire month has not made me very happy, but atleast it should be squared away now...Back to the waiting game!

I applied April 15 and I still have no word either way. If my calculations are correct from what I have heard on dcc, I still could possibly have until end of October - does that seem right?

WOW! Im no math wiz but there dosent seem to be any common time frame. Some get theres in 2.5 months and others are waiting months longer with no word  ???.  Seems they would have a time frame that would be close to the same  ???

Yeah, spoke with my husbands cousin yesterday who filed back in July (14th) and got a call from the AG's office that it was being approved (funny, no one called me.. just a letter)...  and a friend of the cousins who submitted an app about the same time.  Both used each other for references.  They lost one of the reference sheets for the friend -- it was my husbands cousins paper.  so they gave him a few weeks to get the paper re-signed and turned in and then the permit would be issued.

So, that's less than 60 days for this guy getting his permit issued WITH a paperwork issue...   ???  Mine took 90 days and was hand delivered by my Uncle who is a Senior balif in the court house!

I wish we knew more about the "behind the scenes" stuff in their office so we just knew what to expect and who we're dealing with.  I'm sure that there are a lot of improvements that could be made to the process to speed it up, but then again, there is one lonely worker in the Pro's office dealing with all our paperwork.

So, I called Miz Broome at the Prothonotary today, to check about my application status and she told me that they have only just started considering the new applications in July because things were so screwed up with the renewal applicants. Since I applied April 15, I guess that means my ap sat for three months without even being picked up off the pile to start the process. From her way of thinking about it, it is as if I applied in July and if I am lucky, will only have to wait the usual three months (three from July), so I am looking at October as probable ETD! She did not actually say anything so specific but that is how I interpreted it. She would not commit to an estimate when asked directly. She also offered, that if she was not getting so many phone calls bugging her, she could concentrate on getting things done around there! Seriously, is this a very deliberate way of discouraging applicants? Is it my imagination, or have there been alot less newspaper notices of applications for CCDW in the Journal lately? Is Delaware getting the rep of being irresponsible with the way they handle this process?
Title: Re: Still waiting for new ccdw permit

Let's all contact our state representatives, and tell them Ms. Broome needs an assistant...
Title: Re: Still waiting for new ccdw permit
Post by: Moosie on September 09, 2010, 12:05:16 AM
Sorry, but I think Miss Broome needs an attitude adjustment.  I can appreciate the fact that yes, she probably could get her job done a little quicker if we weren't all calling her, but "are you serious?"?!!!  How else is anyone supposed to know if they even GOT the freaking application?!!!

Yes, she needs an assistant.  Yes, it takes forever to get a permit in DE.  Yes, the entire process is screwed up.

I really dont see anyway to speed the process up for her.. other than having some sort of a hot line folks could call stating that if you submitted your application prior to X date they are currently being processed, etc.  Leave a message at the tone.

Sorry, I just have ZERO patience anymore for folks who want to make witty little comments like that when folks are just trying to figure out what is going on.

I agree. Something needs to be done to help the process as a whole. And Im sure the state " dosent have the extra funding to add another person for this problem". Im sure they need more teachers and cops and fireman etc etc... more than they need help in such a "non important problem such as cc permits" I can hear them now lol lol. But all joking aside. I run a trouble truck for the power company and I can tell you when theres an electric outage I could get the electric back on ( in some cases) alot faster if everyone didnt stand out in the road waveing me down ( at about every house) asking whats wrong and how long till the electric comes back on  :P.. It does get anoying and it does take up alot of time. I certainly understand wondering how long it will take , But I dont know till I find the problem and see whats wrong first. And No I dont work for delmarva  ;D They suck! I have them myself and I wish I did work on my circuit. It would be on alot faster  getting my lights back on  ;)

Well, like I said, if there was a "hotline" or some # you could call to check the status that had a simple recording on it, that may cut down on the number of calls she receives...

"Today's date is XYZ.  We are processing concealed carry permits that were filed on or after May 1st, 1989.  If you filed your application prior to this date, please leave your name, number and date you filed at the tone."

I think most folks just want to know that someone actually received it and its not under her desk in the dusty corner, etc.

Why have three different process centers anyway?  I mean if its a state issued license, why not take the three salaries of the folks who process them across three counties, put it into one center and have two folks do it...  sorry, but you cant tell me that all three counties are THIS busy with just permits.  Make them both full time CCW permit processers.

Then again, we are talking about state government...   never mind.  Nothing about them makes any sense.  As soon as they get your money, they dont care how long it takes for you to get it.

Grrrrr.  If Sheriff Joe runs for prez, he's got my vote.

We need our legislators to impose a time limit, like some other states: permits should be issued or denied within 60 days after application.

Thanks Czer....Question for everyone....does any one know if there is a specified time frame to complete the CCDW training portion now that my app is approved? I was told 2 different things....One person told me 30 days, another told me 90 days, I haven't checked with the prothonotary yet, so that will be my next step if no one here knows a definate answer....Thanks in advance for your help

the Delaware code does not specify any time frame, RavensFootball56.  However, that being said...  get on the horn and get your class done!!  That's the last step between you and your permit!

Sweet.  Wait... without going and re-reading the course requirements...  is there a time "requirement"?? Just dont want you to spend the money and the time only to find out they screwed up.  I did mine in two 7 hour days (or something like that).  But it was a Saturday classroom, Sunday at the range.

Just check on that, Ravens.
