Last night between 2 and 3 AM my wife hears something that woke her up. She layed there and then heard a thud and thought one of the Grandkids that were visiting fell off the couch. When she gets to the living room she quickly realizes someone is playing with the front door handle. She runs back into bedroom and wakes me. I open safe and pull loaded and chambered Springfield XDM loaded with hollow points. I yelled thru door "who is there" and a guy says he is trying to get in. I said "what" kind of startled by his comment and he says " I am decorating the house". I stood my ground and waited for police to show up or door to give way as he had put shoulder into i once. I had made up my mind that it was better to let it play out instead of opening door and confronting him. And if he did get in they would be caring him along with 18 rounds out in a bag. Well in 4 minutes 5 State Troopers and a K9 come spinning up and find him sitting on curd with no clothes on. With the grandkids awake I was not leaving my gun on the table so I put it in my waistband and went out on porch.  A Trooper walks over and before she got to me informed her I had a gun on my person and had a carry permit. She thanked me for alerting her and told me he was drunk and naked and thought he was a his fathers house which is 4 houses away. He was a very lucky man last night.

From a legal stand point im sure opening the door would have been a bad choice

Good thinking keeping the door between you and the drunk guy while awaiting the LEOs.
Glad it turned out safely.

Glad you and your family are fine. Completely agree with you. No way I am opening the door. The bad guy will have to break it down. That's the reason I have a deadbolt.

This is the type of event that does not make it into the Defensive Gun Use statistics.  But it is such.  Bloomberg and the Brady Bunch will still say you would have been safer without the gun. Idiots.

Thank God you and yours are safe.
