My wife got her carry permit this year, but she complains that our S&W 642 is "too heavy."
Maybe this (http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product4_750001_750051_764939_-1__757768__ProductDisplayErrorView_Y) will be a little better. I picked it up today, and I look forward to placing it under the tree for her...

??? What, a CCW permit and no subscription to Delaware Concealed Carry Forum? I think this is an AWESOME gift [read "majorly JEALOUS!"], but I'm not sure how much of a surprise it'll be for her!... Hey... wait a minute... maybe if I get my wife that nice gun, then she'll WANT to get her PERMIT! (THIS WILL BE THE FIST GUN PURCHASE I DON'T HAVE TO EXPLAIN!!) Thanks Old Gray- I'm heading to the store first thing tomorrow! ;) Pete D.---

It's all set.
I ordered an ironing board from Amazon.com as a gag, and gift-wrapped the box. It's leaned up against the wall, six feet tall, and she's been going nuts trying to figure out what it is.
Then, I bought a gag gift box (http://www.prankpack.com/buy/blankeez-prank-pack-fake-gift-box.html) that looks like a family-sized Snuggie. I wrapped the Smith in a blue blanket, put it in the box, and gift-wrapped it.
Finally, I took the little keys that came with the revolver -- which we will never use -- and put them in a jewelry box.
I figure she's going to open the ironing board, and (hopefully) realize it's a gag.
Then, I'll give her the jewelry box. When she opens it and says ""are you serious?"?!?!?" I'll tell her that they are titanium nipple rings.
Finally, she'll open the gag box. I'll make sure there's no actual ammunition in the room.

lol. Good luck and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hummm... Ironing board and a gun. I think we'll know who the headlines on the 26th are about.
Good luck.

Although her new gift is "light" it is still gonna hurt like all get out when she throws it at you....LOL
-
Anybody heard from old gray ???. Wonder how it turned out ;D
-
It turned out pretty well... and she didn't immediately shoot me with it! ;D
-
I am sure this will be taken the wrong way but am I the only one who sees this as an admission to making a straw purchase?
-
No, I own the firearm. She can carry it because she lives with me, and she has a CCDW permit.
Good question, though.

No, a gift. I believe between family members it's ok (unless prohibited person).
When I can no longer shoot and pass mine on to my son & grandson....

... and she didn't immediately shoot me with it! ;D
So, you are implying a little time went by, and then???

And then she loaded it and put it in her purse, and we went to the mall for after-Christmas shopping.

To answer my own questions, no. Now that I looked it up this is indeed a legal purchase.
According to the ATF's own Federal Firearms Reference Guide, 2005:
Where a person purchases a firearm with the intent of making a gift of the
firearm to another person, the person making the purchase is indeed the true
purchaser. There is no straw purchaser in these instances. In the above example,
if Mr. Jones had bought a firearm with his own money to give to Mr. Smith
as a birthday present, Mr. Jones could lawfully have completed Form 4473.
