Gonna go up to dove and get it done. i have a state identification right down the street, but it's by appointment only and every other wednesday. on monday's in dover they're open til 6:30 and it's a walk-in. then they're supposed to send me the results. i will wait till that comes then post in the guide and get my two pictures done. i've also just heard it's not worth taking the paperwork in down here cause they send it out in batches up to new castle and the wait is nine month. i've been told to just take it up north.

Where did you hear that?
I'd be surprised if that help shorten the wait.

I believe you are suppose to file in the county you reside in.
-
a friend of my wife. you can turn everything in down here, but they don't process it here, it all gets sent in batches up to new castle.
-
The applications are sent to NCC for the background check. The investigators are there. The presiding judge at the superior court in your county of residence is the one who approves it. Even if they accept it, the NCC prothonotary would probably put your app in a big batch up there and send it to the investigators. That is, if they accept it from somebody who does not reside in NCC. If they do tell you to file in your own county, then a trip all the way up there would be for nothing and it could take you even longer to get your permit.
Maybe not, but that's the way I see it.
-
I would definitely go with what the friend of your wife says rather than the specific instructions from the Superior Court of Delaware.
-
File it in your own county as you are supposed to. ::)
-
I would do what the instructions say,
7. New Applications (May Be Filed At Any Time)
You must file the new application and a duplicate copy.
You may hand deliver your application to the Prothonotary’s Office, or
If all the requirements are met, mail to the Prothonotary’s Office in the County in which you reside:

Love Sinker's comment. Have to agree with him too! 😆

well the only reason i said it is because they don't process them down here, they get sent in batches to new castle to be processed, and right now they're backed up by 9 months

Seems as thought the system of process has bee slowed down considerably. When I got my permit a couple of years ago, I had it in the mail 8 weeks from the day I turned it in in Kent County. It's no secret that Delaware is run by Liberal Progressives that really don't want you to have guns or a permit either. Maybe they think if they make it slow enough, you'll just give up and go away.

aint gonna happen.lol

In NCC, it has always been slow. And occasionally your stuff, or part of it -- can get lost. That's why it's always worth it to make extra copies of what you can. But, again, it's never been fast, or even faster, up on this end. But, in their defense -- they do have other things to do. Just like at Boscov's, the cashiers have to return items and clean out the dressing rooms -- which sometimes makes it difficult to find an open register to buy stuff. And honestly, that's everywhere.

The thing is that quite a but gets done in your own county and part way through it gets sent to NCC for the background check. Not everything is processed there for all 3 counties.
I mean who knows, the lady at the country might say sure! The judge could say this guy can't follow instructions and deny you.
Were a small group who follow the rules to the letter because being in possession of a concealed firearm and not following them comes with the possibility of not having them, fines, prison. Why would you think not following the steps properly would be a good thing? Not being judgemental but honestly asking.

only because of other people i know took it straight up and got their's within 7 to 8 weeks

but i'm gonna just do it down here

In the 4 years I've been on this forum I've never seen anyone post that they didn't submit in their own country. I'd be leery upon renewals which could be denied due to records not being correctly placed or any number of others associated reasons. You submit there, its processed and records are made. From there it goes up to NCC for the background check only as far as I know. If passed your application is then returned to your county and to a judge for final approval. This is the process. Mess with it and you could likely be dealing with issues down the road... including denials or even legal issues if you were to ever need to draw or god forbid fire your weapon. Lost or misplaced paperwork between different county records offices could be a nightmare.

i totally agree. looks like i have to anyway. got fingerprinted yesterday and they are sending the results over to the sussex county prothonotary anyway. so i will have to file there anyways, which was my first intention . but thanks for the advice. i appreciate it!
