Title: Getting Ready for the Winter Hibernation (eg - I just submitted)
Post by: Kimber HD on November 09, 2011, 03:30:16 PM
All,
Just submitted my DE (NCC) and FL paperwork.  The clerk told me that I submitted at a good time; as it is right before the renewal rush.  Her guess was 90 days....We shall see.
One thing to note - include a copy of the fingerprint receipt when you submit.  Thankfully I brought it along just in case, as the Clerk told me that they now want a copy (and she timestamped it with the rest of the application).  Might just want to make a note on this in the instructions listed on this site.

Thanks for all the help thus far !
  -Steve

Week 4 Update
- Nothing from DE
-Called FL's automated system to track the status of my permit.  To my surprise the status was 'mailed'  ;D

Such a huge difference in efficiency between the 'Shall Issue' vs 'May Issue' states.  Anyone ever check out TX's website ?  Wow....

FL Automated system was correct - Document Arrived !

So in summary:
11/9 - Application Received
11/17 - Check Cashed
11/30 - Issued
12/5 - Received

So that is a grand total of 14 Business Days to execute the process (Thanksgiving and Black Friday were State Holidays).

Looks like DE has a lot to learn.

Week 6 Update

Two steps forward, one step back...Two Steps forward !

I received a call on Thursday from an investigator @ the DOJ.  VERY nice guy.  He told me that my permit was in order, and he was ready to sign off on it...However it appeared as if my training certification had expired (13mo old) ???  He stated that all certificates were valid for a period of 12mo, and recommended that I contact my instructor to see if I can re-certify.
So I called Dave @ FSFT and we discussed.  Clearly there was a disconnect; as the laws state nothing about certification expiry.  Needless to say, Dave contacted everyone in the book and got it straightened out for me.  THAT is true customer service !  Sure; he could have easily said "Well, come and pay me to take the class again" - but instead he took time out of his day for free to get this straight for myself, and the rest of us.

THANK YOU DAVE @ FSFT

Hopefully Dave will chime in with the updates on what the state is going to be looking for in the future.

Now it looks like my permit is back at the Prothonotary and will go in front of the judge.  If all goes well I assume I should see it before the end of Jan...

You will have your permit soon Kimber. Timing was good. In another week the onslaught begins.
Out of curiosity, how many deccw forum members are submitting for renewal next month?
Maybe we should convince one of the prothonatarIes to read/post to this forum? Ah, never happen.

As I understand it, the applications for renewal are processed first, before newbies are given attention. Then new applications are processed in the county they are submitted in, by date they are clocked in at the Prothonataries Office. Any body know anything different?

SR9,
That seems to be the way its done, but never heard anything official.
Kimber applied on Nov 9, so the onslaught shouldn't affect him.

Cheers. So good to be off this week!

Ya, I think I just snuck in in time....I'm not sure about the new apps being put on hold during the renewals; but it makes sense as I was told that the processing times for new applications when submitted in Jan/Feb could be 16-24 weeks !

Week 11 Update -
Ok, so usually I do the updates on Sunday...but...I received a call from Ms. Broom today stating that my permit was approved, but that I needed to submit the original training certificate (I had provided two copies).  Is this really the case ?
Regardless, Im in the home stretch.  Ms. Broom told me that once I drop off the certificate to her - I should expect my permit in the mail within the next two weeks.

Kimber,
It's right there on the instruction form:

7. New applications may be filed at any time. You must file the original set and a complete copy of all the documents. (DUPLICATE COPY)

Ya, I know...I know...My fault.  I saw that, and when they said original - for whatever reason I figured they meant of the application, references, etc...Just seemed off to submit an original training cert.
Oh well - I'll drop it off Monday...after taking another 15 copies or so.

Week 12 Update

Well - just hitting the 3 month mark; and nothing yet to show for it.  I dropped off my original training cert last week, so perhaps this week will be the one.

IT HAS ARRIVED !

Came in the mail yesterday, 2/1.  There is absolutely no way this thing is going to fit in my wallet - there's over 1/4" of laminate around the border.  I tried to trim some of the laminate, but already within a couple of hours its starting to separate.  Suggestions ?

In Review:
7 Nov - Submitted both DE and FL
9 Nov - DE cashed my check
17 Nov - FL cashed my check
30 Nov - FL issued my permit
5 Dec - FL permit received
18 Dec - DE reviewed my permit (issues around 'expired' training cert)
20 Jan - DE permit approved, needed to submit original training cert
1 Feb - Permit received

Not bad all things considered - 13 weeks or so.  I would think that w/o the holidays in the middle, etc it would have been closer to 10.

Thanks again for everyone on the board for their support through such a trying time  :D

Kimber HD,
Congrats! I submitted on Dec. 19 including my training cert.. Hopefully that means I should be looking at middle of March, based on your wait time. I'll have to say I'm getting antsey. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas. It's been a long, long time since I've had that feelin'. Know what I mean? Still carrying open at this time.

Ya, I hear ya.

If someone were to ask me how to sum up the wait time, I would say "well....lets put it this way, I know exactly how the mail truck sounds..."

If you live up North, I have a laminating machine at work.  Could reseal it for you.  I went to the farmers market at the airport and found an id wallet that it will fit in.  Have all of my "papers" in it.

Iron on LOW heat?  I think our machine gets up around 300-350.  If you iron it, put an old t-shirt around your permit NOT DIRECTLY on the plastic.  Our machine uses a heavy paper I think is treated.

Yep, so here's what I did....

The lamination seperated nicely from the court.  I carefully trimmed as much as I could from the card stock, then with my iron on low (standing up), I held the card on it, while pushing on the seam with a butter knife.  This sealed the edges directly around the card much better than before, and I was able to get close enough to where the card fit in my wallet.
