Title: 45 gap
Post by: eclipse on March 01, 2011, 02:08:40 PM
I have been reading this thread and shot a friends glock and i am now seriously considering one.  I really like the idea of the 45 gap.  I can't find one for rent at any of the local ranges.  I hate making a purchase without at least seeing the gun first.  Does anyone have any experence with the g38 or g39 in 45 gap.  I currently own a sig 229 and shoot both 40 and 357 sig.

Before buying a pistol in 45GAP make sure you can find ammo for the 45GAP I'm not sure how many gun shops carry the 45GAP.

I fired a G38 during a training class. I liked it, but it didn't steal me away from 10mm.

If I can't find it locally midway has it.  I plan on reloading as much as possible.

I can't find one locally to see or shoot.  Is the g38 on the same size frame as the g26.

i liked that round but its to hard to find locally so I went with the G23 instead. I have a g23 for sale if you end up going for  the  .40

How does that relate size wise to the 26 and what condition is it in?

AS a Firearms Dealer I can tell you that the 45GAP Ammo is expensive.  You definately will not be buying 45GAP ammo at Walmart.  I would also look at the ballistics of the 45GAP compared to the 40 S&W.  Corbon Pow"r"Ball ammo 45GAP 1075fps - 424ft lbs, 40S&W 1325fps - 526ft lbs.  The 40S&W is faster and has over 100ft lbs more kenetic engery.  More kenetic engery equals more stopping power.

As far as the price of the 45 GAP from what i have seen it is just a little more than the ACP.  I plan on reloading for the majority of my shooting.  I will break in with factory loads.

As far as stopping power I would expect a 230 gr bullet to have similar preformance to the 45 ACP.  I have to admit i have not looked up the data myself yet.  As for the 40S&W I have a Sig 229 in 40/357 now but i am not againt having another.  Just ordered a few hunded 180 gr Hornady xtp to work up some new loads.  Tumbling the brass as i type this.

Again, I am not %100 sold on the GAP but i do really like the compact Glocks so any advice is appreciated.

I do prefer to use local resources over catalogs.  Where are you located?
