Title: Question on application for Permit
Post by: Steveo on December 07, 2015, 01:43:17 AM
I have done everything except my prints and turning in paper, the question on have you ever been convicted of school related offense. I got a DUI 40 years ago when I was 18, when I lived in Jersey. I have nothing on this, never saw a judge or fined. Lost my license for 2 months. Do I put this down.

What ever you do, do not lie on your application.

You should be able to get this expunged in New Jersey.

I would do that and then apply.

I believe your autocorrect put school instead of alcohol. Was it a "school" offense?

There is no such question on the Delaware Application.

The only question i saw relevant to you was about alcohol offenses. No question about school related offense.

It is alcohol, auto correct must have put in school. I intend to put this on the application just wanted input as I do not know the date or if it was a DUI, it was so long ago.

If you've recently become a DE resident from NJ, you'll need to submit a certified copy of your NJ driving record, so DE will certainly see the prior conviction.

If not, DE might not find the conviction, but personally I would not risk hiding it.  That will likely bite you in the butt.  I would call NJ motor vehicles (609-292-6500) and try to get the details necessary for the application.

P.S.  if it was a DWI, it cannot be expunged.  NJ has no mechanism to expunge Title 39 (motor vehicle) violations.   They are there forever.

Yup.. we moved from NJ a few years back and after submitting the applications for the wife and I the Fed Agent called and said we'd have to submit the certified copy of our NJ driving records. They can be ordered via the NJ DMV website. Yes its an additional expense and I'd suggest you order it asap and submit it with your application. The Agent told me they are requiring this from most people who haven't lived here for 2 years yet even though its not a state requirement. The Agent said they require it for the Federal background check.

Don't attempt to hide anything on the application. A DUI 40 years ago and being clean (I'm guessing) since shouldn't affect your application.
