Title: Dick's Sporting Goods
Post by: SturmRugerSR9 on October 01, 2013, 05:53:01 PM
I see Dick's Sporting Goods is coming to the Dover Mall soon. I wonder how they plan to handle their gun business, since there are no guns allowed in the Dover Mall. I guess they will have to have an outside entrance. I know in some big box stores that sell guns, when you purchase them you are escorted out of the store by management. You are not allowed to roam around the store with the gun.
Anybody heard any scuttlebuck?

Dicks at Christiana  do the same thing , they are not connected to the mall but they walk you up to the front  and watch you walk out of the store.

I refuse to give a single cent to that inept company. They illegally discriminate against legal residents of the US and have refused to sell firearms and ammo to me. They require US citizenship as a corporate rule only. There is no US law restricting the sale of either firearms or ammo to legal residents of the US which they say there is. I see no reason to lie to them when asked if I'm a US citizen when purchasing either.

Appropriately named as they can suck it before I enter another location.

Federal Firearms is where I'd rather spend my money.  ;D

Thanks for the "heads up" on Dick's.   I think I only bought ammo there once up at Brandywine Town Center.  Don't think they asked me any questions. Just sold me the ammo.

But if they are treating our non citizen residents like that then I won't patronize them either.

Especially if it was a "Bluenose" they dissed.

As Americans, we will pass a few hundred guns to our southern neighbors free of charge.  But Canadians just can't be trusted.

That'd be a Haligonian Bluenoser  ;D

I'm not the first and have found through Google many others have had the same issue. On checkout when I slid my credit card through I was prompted to answer if I was a US Citizen or not. I answered honestly and their system immediately declined the purchase. The staff member, floor supervisor and even manager said it was illegal for them to sell to non Citizens.

Obleo Us Canadian's are very honest.. Just keep yer beer hidden ehh  :D

Edit: this was at Christiana location for me

I just love how these store clerks make up their own laws. They become urban legends.

Back in the 80s before Volkemer-McLure when you used to have to sign for handgun ammo, I was denied a purchase in Texas    The clerk looked at my Delaware license and said that handguns were illegal in those eastern states and he couldn't sell me ammo.  Asked for the manager and he threatened to call the police.

Texas at the time had a flat out ban on any types of carry and still bans open carry. When I told them Delaware allowed open carry they didn't believe me.

I could really go for a cold Quidi Vidi right now but can't get any south of Port aux Basques.  Not even in North Sydney.

Clarence in this regards it wasn't the clerk but its corporate policy.

I understand the beer bit. I love my Keith's beer from Halifax but its not available down here. I usually bring a few 24 flats back with me. Took a case to our street Christmas party last year and it disappeared before I had 4 myself.  :D

Btw.. I might be able to nab some Quidi Vidi in Nov as I hope to be heading up to Halifax for a couple weeks. Know a few people who travel back and forth from The Rock who could get me a case if you'd like. Let me know.

Escort me out of the store....unbelievable. No thank you. Hopefully Cabelas won't follow suit when they eventually open in Christiana. Don't think they will.

I bought my first shotgun from Dicks, and I've bought ammunition there and at Wal-Mart... but I try not to shop for guns and ammo at national chains.
While I look forward to Cabela's opening (don't we all?) it's important to remember that, when we buy a firearm there, most of the money leaves town.

Dick's and Wal-Mart can survive just fine without firearms sales. We can survive without Cabela's and Dick's. What we need is local gun dealers like Federal Firearms, X-Ring and even Targetmaster. They need us to buy guns and ammunition locally, so they can stay in business.

I agree with local purchase.  I'm picking up a small Kahr and I spent a few dollars more than over the web but it helps keep a local dealer in business.

By the way, he's a new FFL in Milton - Garch's Guns - 302-519-2320.

I like to support local FFL holders and really support new FFL holders.  We need as many dealers around as we can.

I have had good experiences at Dicks in Christiana and Brandywine Center on 202. They recently have been getting more ammo in stock. They will sell you three boxes / caliber / day. I am OK with that, then everyone has a chance to buy some. They do ask to see a drivers license but they do not record any info. I just bought more 9MM ammo yesterday.

They also have a frequent buyer program and every couple of months I receive a $10 coupon that I use to buy more ammo. No complaints here.

Here is a another great value of this forum.  Oldgray makes a point that I too often overlook.  Lets support our own community first.

MY local FFL is Delmarva Law Enforcement Supply in Dagsboro. Stewart the owner is very good to work with and let you try things before purchase. He gave me a number of holsters to try before I settled on one I liked. This kind of support is not found at the big box stores or online.

you're all missing a very important part of the whole gun buying experience..    Federal Firearms store smells great.  LOL!!!    Did I mention I love the smell of cosmoline in the morning?  (yes.. for a brief time my bedroom did smell like cosmoline! LOL)

On a serious note, I don't shop big box stores whenever I can help it. No Lowes or HD here.. I'd rather deal with someone who gives a darn about their customers and it's feeding their bottom line.. not some glorified CEO's bonus.

I know who's getting a kick under the table at the next meet n greet (and it's not me for a change).

LOL!!  Since only old "relics" are stored in cosmoline (vs other relics that are stored in bengay)..   so yes.  It was from a gun. LOL.  Several actually. (smart alek!)

Question for you, @OGG, "both, one, or none"? Does cosmoline help you keep your full head of hair?  Bengay for your typing fingers? Snappy riposte requested :)

Ain't never Bengay... they tell me it's nice"

Went to Dick's today and waaaay to expensive. Only 1 person behind the gun counter and can't see the ammo behind the closed doors. Many items not priced.
Don't think I'll be going back except to kill time.

I think it is a policy of most big box stores that sell firearms to escort a purchaser out of the store when they buy a firearm. I know it was at Wal-Mart when they sold real guns. If the department manager wasn't there the store manager was called to do the escort duty. You could go lock the weapon in your car and come back in, but you were not permitted to walk around carrying the rifle or shotgun.

I bought a single shot pellet rifle at the Middletown store and the kid behind the counter said he had to escort me out. I could only laugh. Dicks in Christiana Mall I've seen the same with real firearms and air rifles. Air soft toys were not escort required.

Kent.. Agreed on Dicks pricing. It's way to high. I however will no longer shop there due to their Citizenship policy on ammo.

Saw this on another forum.  I guess that store is not too popular.

In my opinion, Dicks is nothing more than an overpriced clothing store that happens to get a box or 2 of ammo once in a while. I only go in if I have to.
