Title: You will eventually own a Glock
Post by: Sigarms12 on August 30, 2009, 11:24:46 PM
No matter what most of you say at some point in your shooting career you will buy a Glock. You will secretly love this gun and deny it to all your friends. Glocks may not be the prettiest guns like a 1911, Sig Sauer or even a HK but they are a work horse that no matter what you do to it, it will keep on shooting. Whether its a full size Glock 17 or a Mid Size Glock 32 or a sub compact Glock 29 in 10mm you will buy it and love it. ;D

My buddy badmouthed Glocks for twenty years.  But last year, he finally saw the light.  I don't even consider them ugly.

Nothing against Glocks here.. . in fact, determined this weekend that I'm headed towards their compact 9mm or compact .40 for concealed carry.  Well.. during the summer anyway.

I've had one on and off for 15 years and have never had a problem admitting it. I think a lot of gunners don't like them or admitting to like them cuz of the quickness of the anti gun campaigns to name them specifically. You never hear the Brady's say we need to ban a Kahr.

I wasn't impressed with the few Glocks I had shot: they were mostly 9mm range rentals.

I had always wanted a 10mm handgun. I decided that the Glock 20 was the best available, ordered it without ever having fired one, and I loved it right away. It fits my hands perfectly, shoots hard & straight, and I love the trigger. I took it to advanced combat pistol training, and shot 1200+ rounds in 3 days without a single failure. I learned to trust it.

I carried it for a while in a DeSantis JIT Slide under a concealing garment, then I bought a Safepacker for it.
http://store.thewilderness.com/index.php?cPath=51 (http://store.thewilderness.com/index.php?cPath=51)
I liked it so much I bought a Glock 29, and another Safepacker to carry it:

I wear that smaller Safepacker every day. I'm a big guy (6'2", 270 lb) so it looks small on my right hip. Nobody ever looks at it twice.
It holds the G29 and a spare magazine, so I have 21 rounds of DoubleTap full-power 10mm hollow points available.
The longer 15-round G20 magazines also work in the smaller gun, so I keep two of them in the car; sometimes I drop one or both in my off-side pocket just in case...
(In case of what... Die Hard 5 suddenly breaking out?)  ::)

Ok, I'm finally comfortable saying I own a Glock.  :D

Glock 32 (.357).  My "winter" carry gun.  It's too bulky and too heavy to carry during the summer months where it would be printed in a heart beat.... or I'd have to dress looking like a lumberjack to conceal it.

Yeah, I like revolvers, because I know they're going to fire.
In a semi-auto, the closest I can come to that certainty is a Glock, and that's why I carry one.

My son, up in Philly, just got his carry permit. He's fought with every weapon from the Beretta M9, to Ma Deuce, to the treads of the Abrams tank he drove to Baghdad in 2003.
In a few tight spots when their ammo ran low, his Cav troop even had to "borrow" Kalashnikovs from fresh, warm Fedayeen corpses.

Guess what he's about to buy? That's right, a Glock...
a 10mm Glock, because he knows better than most how disappointing a 9mm round can be in a real fight.

Ask him what TYPE of 9mm round he carried.

Congrats to your son for finally getting the LTCF.

FMJ, of course. I may have sent him all sorts of military equipment -- including 30-round magazines for his M9 that kept us from referring to him in the past tense -- but I wasn't going to violate the Geneva Convention (not to mention Post Office rules) by sending him a box of hollow-points.

Yes, I did consider it.

I added Truglo sites to mine.  They have the plastic and gas in order to glow day and night.  $80 bucks at Lawmens and if you talk nice, Jay might even put them on for you.    Jokes aside, best sight I have ever used on a handgun.  Put it on my XD also.  Check them out.

John.

FMJ, of course. ...
That IMHO is the biggest problem!  I'm sorry, but my OPINION - our men and women are putting their lives on the line for us and our freedoms, they should be shooting the nastiest stuff available to them NOT FMJ.

I happen to think they are great looking guns.  I like the look of them over any other handgun; save the 1911.  Can't beat the G-21, G-23, G-26 and G-27.

Too good not to share.

I’m off my meds for just today. But this might be the funniest video I’ve seen in years.  If you’re like me it will take a minute or two after the video to see what he was going for.

I own a Glock 19, but I changed the guide rod to a tungsten guide rod, put a new trigger in it, extended slide stop, extended slide release, meprolight night sites, grip plug, and extended mag release on it. The performance of the firearm has changed very little, but Glocks are very simple to customize, and make your own. I will try any firearm out ,and give it a chance. I own a Sig Sauer 1911, which in my opinion, is hands down one of the best 1911's I have shot, but I will always have a Glock in my gun safe. They are without a doubt one of the most dependable handguns on the market.

Bury the Glock, keep the Walther. : ) My PPQ, PPS & PPKs are just as reliable.

Walther now has the PPQ with the Americanized button release instead of the German paddle in the US now. Many people weren't interested in the PPQ because of the paddle though I prefer it entirely over the button release. I know 3 Glock users who have sold their Glocks for the new PPQ over the last month.

Interesting chat at the US border last month I had. Stopped in to ask a few firearm questions I had regarding transporting rifles and handguns up there on my trips. We sat at a table and 3/4s of the officers came out to chat and have coffee with me over our conversation. Two of the officers had PPQs on their side and most there's had Glocks however a few said they were considering the change to the PPQ after shooting it a bit.

That said.. I have thought about buying 2 ... just because : )

I am in as well. There is reason all the striker pistols on this thread copied Glock's firing system, tolerances, and safety schema...well two reasons - 1. It is a great design, 2. They couldn't come up with a better design.

Recently purchased a glock 19........absolutely love shooting it as did my wife and 12 year old son........cleaning it was a snap.....I have a Ruger LCR and considered that my carry piece....changed my mind.....although a little chunky the glock has a better bullet to bad guy ratio.....

Hands down best gun I've ever shot!  They do have them at Targetmaster to shoot at the range but it would cost you around 40 bucks to shoot it if your not a member.

Thanks for the advise...

I am going to go to Shooter's Choice this weekend to see if I can try one out... I live about 3 minutes from there...

Yeah Targetmaster is pretty good. If you know anyone with a platinum membership they can rent the gun for free and usually get a guest in for free. Lst I checked 9mm is like $15 a box plus tax.

ANother good pistol for concealled carry ( from my wife's opinion) is the Beretta px storm 9mm.

I personally carry a 1911 and not many people are getting up for a 45acp round. I have been told a couple rounds of 9mm will "just tick them off"

Good luck with your choice.

If you do go with a targetmaster member you can probably try several guns to see what you like. Springfield xd.

If you want small the lc9 in 9mm is pretty popular. I perosnally think it has a bit of snap when you shoot it. I also know quite a few people like those hammerless .38 special revovlers in 5shot like smith & wesson make.

I don't own one (yet!) My experience with them goes back to their first generation. I'm left handed and left eye dominate. The Gen 1 Glocks tended to toss the empties at my forehead. That gun however, did shoot very well, I just didn't care for getting bonked in the head while shooting it. Now, I'm told that they have solved the issue of throwing the brass straight back, and indeed I borrowed a newer Gen 3 model from a friend in 9mm and not one empty returned back in my face to greet me personally. Yes, I'm considering adding one to the stable.

I am about half way through a book called "Glock" by Paul Barrett.  Very interesting read on Gaston Glock and all the turmoil his gun has caused along the way - including family quarrels.  Whether or not you're a fan of the gun, I highly recommend the book.

No doubt Glock makes a quality pistol. The main problem with them is the grip angle, many find, that when they point the Glock, without aiming using the sights, the Glock is pointed slightly downward.
