As early as tomorrow, a dangerous and extreme anti-gun bill is expected to be considered in committee. House Bill 222 is a woeful violation of individuals’ right to due process in Delaware. It is important that you contact your state Representative and immediately urge them to OPPOSE House Bill 222.
House Bill 222 would allow an individual’s family members or law enforcement to petition the court for an ex parte restraining order if they consider the individual to be a danger to themselves or others simply because the individual owns, possesses or purchases a firearm. Under this bill, an ex parte order would be issued by a judge based solely on a brief, unsubstantiated affidavit made by a petitioner and absent any input made by the individual on which the order is targeted. If enacted, this legislation would require the respondent to transfer or relinquish their firearms, or show proof that their firearms are inaccessible. If requested, all firearms would be immediately seized by law-enforcement. This legislation is ripe for abuse by individuals that disagree with the Second Amendment, and the mere insinuation that gun ownership makes you a danger to yourself or others is offensive and insulting.
Again, House Bill 222 could be considered as early as tomorrow. Please contact your state Representative and immediately urge them to OPPOSE House Bill 222.

Just when you thought they were preoccupied with the budget mess, they decide to sneak this thru. The dems love to do secret junk in the wee hours of night.

As of today, HB 222 is the only agenda item (http://legis.delaware.gov/MeetingNotice/1556)on the House Administration Committee meeting on Jun 21, Rm 212, 2:30 pm (http://legis.delaware.gov/CommitteeDetail?committeeId=453). Committee members are:

Valerie Longhurst
Vice-Chair:

Daniel B. Short
Deborah Hudson

If anyone is interested in attending the meeting, I'd be happy to join them, if I don't work. Maybe some faces showing up to show our disapproval with this bill, may help.

June 21 Committee meeting cancelled. http://legis.delaware.gov/CommitteeDetail?committeeId=453

Any reason given for the cancellation? Hopefully it was lack of support and Unconstitutionality .

nothing that was obvious. I was planning to go down there. Let's keep an eye on this. The purported purpose of the bill is suicide prevention (http://www.dehousedems.com/press/bentz-bill-would-prevent-risk-people-harming-themselves-others) per an article by the DE house Democrats but the phrase "danger to self and others" opens the door to a gun grab because, obviously, gun owners are inherently a danger to others in the eyes of the gun control activists.

Cbmarine, I'd like to keep in touch with you. If they reschedule this, I'd like to attend with you if possible.
-
NRA reports this is canceled. Can it be brought back by June 30?

Will be happy to go with you.
-
Keep me in the loop as well. If possible, I'd be up for attending.

let's post our observations in this thread and when legislative activity is imminent, form up the squad and head down.
Keep an eye on this Session Calendar (http://legis.delaware.gov/SessionCalendar)webpage. HB 222 (http://legis.delaware.gov/BillDetail?LegislationId=25942)is in the House Administration (http://legis.delaware.gov/CommitteeDetail?committeeId=453)committee. As of today, there are no meetings scheduled for that committee and the legislative session ends on July 1. IIRC, the legislature suspends regular order near the end of the session and will rush bills through in a streamlined process.
-
So since we are now in July is this a dead issue?
-
Yes, dead until next January, but never fear, the dems will resurrect it and anything else they think they can slip by when no one is looking.
Don't drop your guard!!!!
