I bought a Stag from Smyrna Sporting Goods for $925.  A fun gun.  You can go up from there $$ not sure what make's one better then another except for Match Barrels.  Miller's Guns can tell you.  Have fun with it.

I drool excessively over Rock River AR's!  They're gorgeous.

I would be willing to go base model but if I can get a used one that's a few steps up I wouldn't mind.

Aslong as its a quality manufacturer there all the same in that price range just with different roll marks on the reciever. If you go new id say go with stag..... Ive handled a few and all have been very nice.

You can build one cheaper than buying a complete model.  Plus this way you can customize each part as you go.  I transfered a pair of "Delaware Machinery" lower receivers to guy not long ago.  You can find them on r-guns.net.  I think the stripped lower was $65.  R-guns.ner also has kits to comlete the lower and entire weapon.  You can purhcase the entire thing "disassembled" for like $715 or $720.  Then have someone help you put it togehter.  AR-15's are easy to build.

I was a m1a guy for a long time.  About a year ago I got a RRA NM A4.  Now I am saving for another.    It is a really fun gun to shoot.  With hand loads I can get under .5 inch group at 100 yds.

Don't get me wrong.  I still love the m1a the ar is just less expensive to buy and feed.  It is also much easier to scope blah blah blah............

Much respect for the black rifles.
Shoot a few thousand rounds through it without cleaning it, like I have with my Saiga-12, and then we'll see which one is more useful in the dark.

(Sorry, I couldn't let this thread continue without an unsolicited shout-out to my hero, Mikhail Timofeeyevich Kalashnikov)...

Good for you!  Now you can drool over your own.  :)
Are we gonna put glass on it??  Horus vision.  .02

If anyone here does not reload 223, i'll take the brass (if you want to give it a good home).

Also, sounds like a range trip is in order soon for a meet n' greet.
Still would like to meet the people here.

Sounds good what ranges will allow you to shoot 223.  I usually shoot at atglen.  Nice long range very rarely crowded.
