Not directly a reloading question, but when you shooting at the range how do you make retrieving brass easier than just hunting for it. Alot of times I'm shooting at the outdoor range (sand) in Bridgeville with a buddy or out back (grass). The sand isn't too bad but the dead grass outside right now is a pain to find brass in. We will usually go through 300 or so rounds together up to 500 and it's just annoying. The indoor range by him (Targetmasters on 202 in PA) won't allow you to keep your brass (for liability issues my a**, their selling it I guarantee or reloading themselves).

I am just getting into it with a friend. Have got lots of brass, power, scale, press ( lee) and so forth. We are going to be doing 9mm. 45acp
It seems like that might be the only way to go, but components are getting hard to find and probably will be soon as high as ammo costs a couple years ago.
-
Right now, I reload .38, .44 mag, .40, .45, and .223. I want to add 9mm to that soon, and might look at others as well.

I don't know that I'd keep using a range that wouldn't allow me to keep my own brass! It's mine until I walk away from it and leave it for someone else. If you're going to tell me that I can't police my own brass and take it with me when I leave, then you're stealing from me, and I'm not interested in giving you any more of my money.
Dead grass is a PITA to be sure. I've pretty well relegated myself to accepting that I'll lose some brass from time to time when I'm shooting somewhere with tall, dead grass. My goal is get about 80-90% of my brass back when I shoot someplace like that, and I'll be happy. Anything past that is gravy. :-)

@lumspond. .22LR reloads? Aren't those primers hard to find? I hear that H'wood is looking for an new Oscar ceremony host next year. Are you throwing your hat in the ring?
-
My smiley face icon is no longer showing up under my ".22lr" post.
What's the Oscars gig paying?
-
Oscars? If you have a large repertoire of jokes demeaning gun freaks, rightwing nut jobs, and anything capitalistic, you should be able to get a nice paycheck. Somehow, I don't think that your heart would be in it. Although this year's Oscars seemed to be tamer than usual.

IF any of you guys have .38 special or .223 reloads to sell, I would be very interested. The price of ammo now is outrageous.

I reload everything I have excepting the rim fires.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, my hobby/enjoyment is loading and shooting obsolete cartridges. Many of them are no longer available and I have to form the brass as my first step.
Here's some of my rifle cartridges loaded, 22 Hornet, 223, 22-250, 243, 25-20 WCF, 280, 7X57, 32-40 Ballard, 30 WCF, 38-55 WCF, 375 WCF, 307, 308, 30-06, 338-06, 303 Brit, 30-40 Krag, 358, 8X57, 33 WCF, 40-82 WCF, 44 WCF, 45-60 WCF, 45-70 Govt and a couple other obsoletes. Don't load any of the new wonder mags.
Pistol, 32 S&W & other obsolete ones & modern here and there up thru 45 ACP.
So far, I've been able to use out of my stash. I have friends in the west who tell me the shelves are bare. One in So Dak where I hunt pheasant tells me there are no primers to be found and the shop he goes to is out of powder with months of backorder.
Has that been true for reloading components in the Delaware and PA area?

Primers, except shotgun, are scarce or more correctly, absent. Called King Shooters in PA; some shotgun primers only. Heard that Xring in Newark had primers, but apparently not CCI. Natchez SS, online, had a 1000 CCI primer pack for $40 + $17 shipping + $27.50 hazmat fee =~ $79. Since there was a limit of 2, I passed. If anyone knows where I can find CCI #500 in northern DE, please sound off!

I have a Spanish Star 9MM Largo pistol manufactured in 1953. I keep all the brass as the cartridge is longer that a standard 9mm. Do you think you could reload some for me. I know that I will probably have to find primers unless you have some.
Also have .223 or 556 which ever you choose to call them cartridges that need reloaded. Any possibility here?

Hey seniorgeek
is that star9mm the gun that looks kinda like a 1911? If it is I was thinking of getting one. Thanks for the heads up about the ammo. I thought it took just regular 9mm. Is there a way a smith can modify it to work with normal 9mm ammo.

Yes, it does look like a 1911. It does take the extra long 9mm cartridges. They are still available as I just bought 1000 rounds for $250. Very reasonable based on what other ammo is selling.
