Title: Looking for a used shotgun
Post by: Sigarms12 on May 12, 2009, 12:21:05 AM
Anyone know where I can find a used shotgun. I'm not too worried about stock condition I can replace them or re-finish them.

I figured as much, but wanted to just yank your chain.  While I know some folks have gotten some decent stuff off of there, I guess I liken that to buying a gun on ebay (if it were allowed).  There are just certain things you don't want to purchase like that.

So, explain what you mean by "special", and please give more details.  Certain make, model, etc.  That might help us narrow it down! Also, BlueHen? maybe you can chime in?

I just want a gun that I can shoot trap, skeet ect. I'm not real worried about if its pump, semi, o/u. I don't care if its 12 or 20 guage. I don't plan on hunting with it. I thought about getting an 870 but if I can get a better gun used for a little less that's a plus.

Ok, I actually read your post, Sig!  LOL  No, the original one.  "Local", "Special"... it's all the same, right?  Ooops.

sorry.

Short of looking in the paper or going through some of the local gun shops, you're on your own.

Happy Tuesday!

Sig,  I would recomend either a auto or an O/U for skeet or sporting clays. You can use a pump for trap easily as you only shoot one bird at a time. It can be difficult (done but difficult) to shoot skeet or clays with a pump as you regulary have 2 targets. The stoeger that I have only has 26" bbls which IMO is good for skeet and trap but alittle short for clays, I would go for atleast 28" tubes for clays. You may not be planning on shooting clays but if you get into and enjoy skeet you may sell family members for a good day at the clay course.

I wouldn't mind an O/U the stoger looks like a nice gun. I was also thinking about a Remington 1100.

The 1100 and 1187,s are great guns but the gas systems can be a pain in the @@@. The O ring can get easily fouled with cheaper ammo causing the gun to stop feeding. I carry spare O rings and a can of spray cleaner when I shoot my 1100 a lot. Having said that I do love mine.

I have a $150 gift certificate for shooters supply... I would like trade it for a used waterfowl shotgun - like a Remington 870 or 1187 - shooters supply has nothing I want... we can do the transaction there so we can verify the money is on the card... If the gun is in good condition and its worth more money I will pay you the difference in cash...

Thanks,  Twink
