I love my Glocks, but when SHTF I want to have my 1911 on my hands.

Makes me cringe when I see people doing that to such a nice fire arm.

I'll take my Walther PPQs and metal CZ 75 Pistols. Both extremely reliable handguns. Wife likes her Ruger 1911 though so we'd have that..

And a revolver.. Everyone should have a revolver!  ;D

Agreed. Love my Ruger GP100.

I've been thinking about a .44 magnum for a while.

Nice revolver for sure and one of the best looking as well. I really like my Ruger revolvers. The SP101 bobtail in .38spl/.357mag/9mm ;D and the Alaskan .454 get the most use. Have a couple .45 colts but like Condition1.. I'd like a big ol .44mag as well.

My 1911 is everything I want. Except I would love to have a Colt Detective Special revolver.  Out of production and pricey now.

The only Colt revolver I'd like would be the .44 mag Colt Anaconda.. One with a 4" barrel, one with a 6" barrel and a one with an 8" barrel.  ;D

Same as the DS however these days.. Pricey!

Its hard to find any colt revolver thats not at least twice the price or more then whatever the s&w equivalent is.

I have wanted a 1911 ever since I first fired one in basic training back in 1976. Finally got one for Christmas last year. It is not my EDC and not my main home defense gun, it is my fun gun. Love the way it feels and shoots.

Fired one while in the military, a Colt, I think. I found it a lot bulkier than most of the Semi-automatics today. Wasn't impressed.

I don't doubt your experience,  but in all honesty this is the first time I hear anyone say a 1911 is bulkier than other guns. One of the features I love, besides reliability and accuracy, is its slim profile.

I've never owned a 1911, but I certainly respect its heritage, that's for @@@@ sure.

I've been thinking about a .44 magnum for a while.

I've had the pleasure (not) of bustin a few caps on a Ruger Black Hawk.  The thing was silly hard on the body.  My son loaded 5 cyl with 44 special and one with 44 mag...just to mess with me.

The short barreled Ruger Red Hawk Alaskan (http://www.ruger.com/products/superRedhawkAlaskan/models.html) in .454 Casull is one of my favorite handguns. Shoot it a lot! It's also available in .44mag and .480. The .454 is a hoot to shoot in it and one of the biggest fireballs and noise makers at the range with Buffalo Bore ammo.

It is controllable however it's expensive and requires a lot of shooting to control it. Wife has her own but shoots .45Colt in it and says its like shooting a .22  ;D

Yeah, I've looked at the Ruger Alaskan and really liked. Maybe one day when I need something more powerful for bear country.

One of the coolest things about Alaska is the selection of large guns available in gun shops.
Ruger Alaskans and other huge revolvers are sold in chain sporting goods stores. Wal-Mart has a decent selection of .454 Casull rounds. I asked the clerk at the big-box retailer if they had a 10mm Glock in stock; they had both models, and a Colt Delta Elite.

Myself, I carry 10mm walking around in Bear, in case we run into a bear.

I carry my 10mm around here, black bear country. I wouldn't dare to care a 10mm on brown bear country though.

I know this is an older post, but as an AGI cert 1911 gunsmith, I must rebutt.  That nice looking gun he was kicking around was not intended to be reliable under those conditions.  The tolerances are much tighter than a military 1911, which would probably work under those conditions.  Pick up a military grade 1911 and shake it, it rattles.  It will probably work if dropped in the dirt, but don't expect 1/2" groups @ 25'.  It will be accurate enough to stop a bad guy, quickly.
