Title: New to DE New Castle County
Post by: Andrew1986 on January 13, 2016, 02:09:56 PM
My wife and I bought our home in North Wilmington. I grew up in northern DE and south eastern PA. NOw pursuing the process of obtaining my CCW in DE. PA was so much easier less headache. Wanted to know where others have done the firearm training (target master, Cabela's or somewhere else)

Thanks
Andrew

I can only tell you about a trainer I wouldn't recommend.  It happens to be a gun shop in Kent County.  But I'll be nice.  Welcome to the forum!

I too used first state, highly recommend them and fairly priced as well.  Another plus, they continue to answer any questions you have very promptly.

Seems like they got better at processing, seeing quite a few lately only 2 months, but stick with the 6 month and you will be happy when it comes in sooner. As for training I used 302 Tactical which he runs at Cabela's, this class also give you the certs. for FL.and then you would have reprocity in half the country if you want to do this.

SO wanted to let you guys know about 2 weeks ago I get a call from a DOJ investigator and he had me get him my certified driving history from the state of PA. Talk about odd how does this have anything to do with CCW. His reasoning was that I only moved to the state of DE in May 2015. Wonder what you all think about this. I got it paid the $32 and mailed it to him yesterday...

I was told by the guy I took my CCW class from that I should send it because at the time I had only been here 2 years.

Got the call today 7/8 that my permit is approved contingent on taking the gun course I'm thrilled. Planning on taking the course in the next two weeks with First State Firearms. Anyone taking the course with them before?

Took my class yesterday with first state firearms great class. I highly recommend it. Will be turning in my certificate to the courthouse today. Wondering how long till they send me my permit. This is the only thing they're waiting on. Also for my pa non resident one of I go to the courthouse in Lancaster do I get it that day?

Normally in and out in 30 minutes or less with permit in hand.

You must have you DECCW to get a PA. non-resident permit. So considering you are just submitting your DE. paperwork, in NC, you may have a 6 month wait time. No sense running up to Lancaster Sheriff's office yet. You will need your DECCW and DE. drivers license in hand to get the PA permit.

My paperwork is already submitted all I need to give them is my class certificate all other has been done they are just waiting for me to give them the class certificate. Handed in paper work in February and they called me beginning of July saying judge has signed off just need the class done.

You must have a DECCW permit and your DE. Drivers license. That is the only thing PA will accept. That and the cash. Paperwork and certificates are no good to them.

I was saying I wonder how long till DE sends me my permit since the judge us signed off on everything. Then I was saying how long does it take to get the PA one.

(a) a couple of weeks... you should probably set up camp at the mailbox.
(b) less than half an hour... don't spend too much in the parking meter, they don't give refunds.

And just to help out those who have not gone up to Lancaster yet, be sure to:

1. make a copy of both sides of your delaware permit ( I added a copy of my DL on the same sheet) to hand in with your application and instructions sheet.

2. fill out application ahead of time but wait to sign it in front of the clerk.

3. on the instructions sheet(item 3) just print in the town/state where you live where it asks for current police agency.

4. on instructions sheet (item 4) check NO where it asks if you have previously applied. Check YES for New Application.

5. on instructions sheet (item 6) just write in the town or city and the state where you were born.

6. at the very bottom remember to sign AND print your name in the appropriate spaces.

7. keep your drivers license handy because the clerk taking your picture will ask for it.

The whole process takes place in the same room and there are about 10 seats.

Bought a Glock 43 from Chris at Federal Firearms I highly recommend him to everyone. I'm definitely a customer for life. He was very nice and professional. Also great prices on guns and ammo.

Honestly emails and phone calls will not make the process go any faster or smoother for that matter.  Be patient like the rest of us have been it will come I am sorry but I think it is ridiculous that emails and phone calls are made to these people.  There are already hundreds of applications that they need to process this only takes them away from getting the job done.

One problem you are fighting is that most if not all the Government agencies in NC are loaded with Liberal Progressives. They don't want people to have guns or permits anyway, so there is no way they are in any hurry. Same goes for most of Delaware. That goes from the Governor, Legislature, right on down.

Considering a judge has signed everything and she called me telling me to go ahead and do my gun class now and I dropped it off a week ago I don't see anything wrong with calling or emailing her. She also says in her voicemail to feel free to email her if it is a CCW question.

In some companies, "mailed" is defined as sent to the mailroom. "A action passed is an action completed"

This whole process is a lesson in patience.  How ever unconstitutional it may be we should not need a process like this to carry out our given rights.  People say it weeds out the bad apples but it is the bad apples that do not care about the process or the laws and will do what they want to do.

This is what I am thinking is meant by it has been mailed because yesterday when I spoke to her she said yes it was mailed 8/3/16 and I said well isn’t it odd I haven’t received it, considering I live about a 15 min drive from the courthouse. She said no it could take a week to a week and a half because it goes to a sorting place blah blah blah I still think it makes no sense that you cant just drive there and pick it up if you wanted to…

Wear your gun everyday or as often as possible. Remember do not pay attention to it and neither will others. Don't fiddle and fool with it, it draws attention to your gun.
