Title: "No Guns allowed" at the DMV anymore.
Post by: BeachBum on February 24, 2016, 09:26:49 PM
I was at the Georgetown DMV last October and looked for any signs since I had my gun with me and didn't see any.
Well, just today I was walking in all casual and saw like 4 signs "No guns allowed" at the entrance, so I just turned around and locked my gun in the car.
When and why did this happen?, does any one knows?.
Thanks

Well, I don't know, but it is a State owned building.

When I renewed my registrations last year I locked my gun in my car.  The DMV is a state facility so I assumed that no guns are allowed.

I don't think guns ever were allowed. They just got around to putting some signs up.
Like the others said, it is a state property.

Last time I was at the DMV in Georgetown (Sept 2015) I carried concealed and everything was fine. I didn't see any signs but as @Beachbum said the signs are there now.

They usually have State Police Officers on site, so I'd be careful if I were you all.

I believe this is being done under the new law allowing municipal governments to ban guns, ammo etc from municipal buildings by posting one of those conspicuous signs.   Possession of a license to cary is an exemption to that law so you can just ignore it.

Be careful.  State facilities are not covered by that law. The effect of that law is to allow municipalities and counties to ban open carry in their buildings irregardless of preemption. The state already has the power to do what they want in their buildings.

The DMV, and government at large, has been a sore spot for many Americans.  With the development of terror threats I must agree that the people that work in these facilities deserve heightened protection.  I view the deployment of troopers to these locations as a smart move.  After all; armed security is a good idea.

Making a point in Walmart is one thing.  Brazingly (sp) open carrying in DMV is quite the other.  I can respect and willingly obey the rules for state facilities, but will use the drive through every chance I can. And I do know were are discussing CC here.

For the record, my experience in the Dover DMV has always been excellent and kudos to State leadership for making that happen.
