Title: .380 interchangeable with 9mm?
Post by: Obleo on January 17, 2017, 11:17:24 AM
I was watching a detective show and the guy says a perp loaded a 9mm auto with .380 because they are interchangeable.  No way right?

I'm no expert but I think the first round would fire. It would probable fail to load after since the 380 is shorter. Good question.

Definitely not interchangeable. A Google search will show many discussions on the subject.

Thank you Radnor.  Looks like it could happen.  It seems to depend upon the extractor engaging during chambering and then reduced recoil spring strength to properly eject the casing.  If those two items are addressed then a proper magazine would likely make this idea viable.

Fun to experiment though.
