Dick's Sporting Goods ends assault-style weapon, high-capacity magazine sales

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Dick's Sporting Goods Inc on Wednesday said it was permanently curbing certain gun sales at all of its stores in the wake of the recent massacre at a high school in Florida that has re-ignited a fierce debate over gun control in America.
In an interview with ABC News, Dick's CEO Ed Stack said the company would no longer sell assault-style firearms or high-capacity magazines, and would not sell any guns to those under age 21.
"We're taking these guns out of all of our stores permanently," Stack said, adding that he was prepared for any potential backlash toward the business.
Pennsylvania-based Dick's sells weapons through its Dick's Sporting Goods and Field & Stream stores.
Stack said there were not enough systematic protections to prevent gun sales to people who are potential threats, and urged Congress to act comprehensively not only on background checks but also on mental health and other possible solutions.
"The systems that are in place across the board just aren't effective enough to keep us from selling someone a gun like that and so we've decided that we're not gong to sell the assault-type rifles anymore," Stack told ABC.

And Cabela's laughed and laughed. I never liked Dick's Sporting Goods. Their prices were always much higher than Chris or Cabela's. Once in a blue moon they had a sale but by then I had already erased them from my memory. The backlash happened many years ago.

This is a 2 way street, they boycott us we boycott them. Rarely went to Dicks anyway, because it is close, now never. I heard where the unfavorable rating on those companies jumping has doubled almost overnight. They may yet wake up.

Walmart's is suppose to be following the same path. Only thing is, is here in Delaware, few Wally Marts carry anything but shotguns and pellet rifles, maybe a .22. Or that's what I have observed down state. They do carry most popular ammo.

I had read here (don't remember when or where) that there is a law (rule or otherwise) that says you have to sell used firearms in order to sell new firearms in Delaware and, since Walmart doesn't sell used firearms, thy can't sell firearms in Delaware. I have no idea if this is true.

KMart and WalMart both started pulling out of Delaware gun sales around the same time. That was around when the Bear KMart had a couple of guns stolen during business hours. At that time (and, honestly, still) both companies have stores located in less-than-ideal locations. Overall, WalMart had been pretty decent with firearms, as you could go in and order stuff from their book that was behind the counter. But, times change — and they’re more interested in paying nothing to their workers to restock shelves with clothing that falls apart during the first wash. Even a few years ago they started ID-ing everyone buying ammo — even if you had a grey beard.
And just to be clear — even thirty years ago, there were stores that wouldn’t sell any “handgun” ammo to anyone under 21. Although this mostly affected 22LR, with T/C and some derringer companies — arguably that affected ALL ammo. The difference now is that these companies get some grandstanding publicity by announcing this policy.

Starting March 6th, Walmart will only sell ammo to persons 21 and older.
Saw that on a notice posted on the ammo case in the Milford Walmart.
