Title: 2019 Renewal
Post by: MarcWinkman on January 03, 2019, 07:09:46 PM
I just filed my 2019 renewal while I was at the courthouse for a client's matters.  We'll see if they do better than the four months that the initial application took.

I believe renewals are second to new Applications, because once you've filed for renewal you are covered even if your permit runs out. You should have a copy of the renewal with you just in case you are questioned.

NCC renewal shouldn't take as long as the initial. I think maybe 30 days(?) when I did it last year in 2018.

Sent mine by mail Jan. 2, we will see. I see they cashed my check on Jan. 9th, so I know at least they got it. :)

Mine only took 3 weeks last year in Sussex county. My original took 17 weeks.

I believe all permits expire on May 31. You can apply for renewal any time after January 1.

If you apply for renewal and you permit runs out at the end of May, you are still covered to carry as long as you renewal is in the works. But you do have to have the renewal application in the system. Best to keep a copy of the renewal application on you, or readily available.

Here's a potential problem:
IANAL, but I'm pretty sure "It shall be a defense..." doesn't mean you won't be arrested and charged with a felony, it means that you can use the fact that your application was filed as a defense in court.

Thats sounds like a proper interpretation to me . But than again IANAL either . It probably has a lot to do with the officer and the situation .

Knowing all the statutory language, etc. isn't my concern, my concern is that the renewal get processed before KJ can implement an AG opinion and submit it to the Assembly seeking to pause processing of applications and renewals until such time as the new Title 11 is put in place.

If the topic is SB 209 & SB 210 previous alerted here  (http://deccw.com/index.php?topic=5426.0) by @MarkB, IIRC the previous AG was opposed.  If so, is Kathleen Jennings able to change that position, i.e., rank and file?

Interesting. The form required for "New Applications for a License to Carry a Concealed Deadly Weapon, (Retired Delaware Police Officer)" has been recently updated. Have these applications always been sent directly to the Attorney General?

https://courts.delaware.gov/forms/download.aspx?ID=33078

Nevermind. I believe this is simply the "Psychiatric Waiver", as required by Title 11, Section 1441, sub part (h), (1), a.

Quote
A certification from the Attorney General's office, in a form prescribed by the Attorney General's office, verifying that the retired officer is in good standing with the law-enforcement agency from which the retired police officer is retired; and...

I suppose with Kathleen Jennings as AG, the form needed to be updated.

I live in New Castle County. My 2019 renewal took about six weeks.

By the way, am I supposed to do anything with the old card?

After the May expiration it is no good, unless you want to start a collection of old DECCW's

Hi - I have to renew my license this year and started filling out my application. There is a section for Notary Public. I do not recall this section on my initial new license application form. Do I need to get it nortalized before sending it out?

thanks
Title: Re: 2019 Renewal
Post by: FreakShow on March 02, 2019, 06:59:44 AM
you have to take it to the prothonotary  office anyway. you can't just send it out yourself. it's a 65 dollar filing feel, and they have a Notary there for you.
Title: Re: 2019 Renewal
Post by: lynch on March 02, 2019, 09:31:10 AM
You had to have gotten your first application notarized.
Unless you turned in the paper work at the Prothonotary's office.
They had to have witnessed you signing the document and then they notarized it.
If you mailed it in a notary had to witness you signing it.
Title: Re: 2019 Renewal
Post by: SturmRugerSR9 on March 02, 2019, 12:26:13 PM
Best policy is to take it to the Prothonotary's office in person. Do not pre-sign the form. you will have to sign it in front of their notary. Plus, they can look over your paper work and make sure you have everything in order. If you mail it and it is not right you can figure at least 2 extra weeks delay above the norm for getting permit.

Agree 100%. We always file in person, the first business day after New Year's.

Yes, it needs to be notarized. I took mine to my bank and had it notarized there for no fee. I mail my renewals, saves me a trip to Wilmington and disarming to go into the building. You can tell if the form arrived if they cash your check.

There is no good reason not to do by mail unless you live right near the courthouse. Maybe Kent and Sussex are better but New Castle county is a real pain.

Last time I renewed, it was by mail and they cashed my check within a week.

Only 4 months for your permit to arrive,  That was quick mine took them 6 months almost to the day when I first filed for mine.  Took them a month to get my renewal to me.

My original permit arrived 8 weeks to the day.  My last renewal was about 30 days. My next renewal will be next year, if the Delaware Communist Party Legislature doesn't ban the DECCW and Ban guns altogether, which is what they would prefer.

Be safe.

Ladies and Gentlemen, a blizzard is forecasted for Delaware tonight. Right?
This is my second renewal. Dropped off my renewal in person on January 7. Got my new permit today, March 7. 2 months exactly. I'm impressed.
Must be a record for New Castle County. My last renewal didn't arrive until May.

Again, getting your application for renewal is the key. As long as you have applied before the deadline you are covered, even if you don't get your new permit by May 31. But, you must be able to document you have applied within the legal timeframe. A good move would be to carry a dated copy of you application on you until you get the renewed permit in hand.

Heard something on the news today about Virginia Non-Resident Permits being done away with...
Anybody heard about this, or any update. I had thought about getting the VA. permit instead of the PA. permit because it covered more states that I would be likely to go to. Guess not now.

The web site says there is a 3-6 month processing time due to the high volume of nonresident applications.

It always says the same thing “high volume”.
When was the last time they said “ normal volume we will get right on it”?

Mailed in my second renewal 1/31, check cashed 2/05, card arrived 4/17.  New Castle County.
It was a bit faster last time, only 6 weeks, but it came. This is my first plastic card. They adopted them just after
my previous renewal. Certainly looks more professional. They also returned one of my passport photos - seems they
only need one now? The instructions still read "2 passport photos".
Regards, all!
