Title: Shooting in Aurora - faiure of a system - again
Post by: MarkB on February 16, 2019, 05:57:24 PM
I watched the police press event from the Aurora Police Department today on Fox.  It was stated that the shooter applied for a FOID card in 2014 and was approved after a background check and then leagally bought a S&W .40 cal pistol.  He then applied for a concealed carry permit in 2014 but the background check found a felony conviction from Mississippi in 1994 for stabbing a woman.  He also had six prior arrests, including domestic violence issues, by the Aurora Police.  As a result of this felony conviction his application for a CCW was denied and his FOID card was revoked.  The shooter, at this point, could no longer possess a firearm.  Officials did not seek to confirm that the shooter no longer had a firearm so the pistol he had purchased and used in the shooting was an illegal firearm.  Of course, the pistol will get blamed for the shooting and not the shooter.

This Pratt work place was also a "No Gun Zone", the favorite target of the criminal and mentally ill. It also appears that it was premeditated as he was there at a meeting where he was to be fired from the company.

Update: The shooter, Gary Martin, passed two background checks to get his pistol despite his felony conviction.  The first background check gave him his Firearm Owners Identification Card, FOID card, and the second was to purchase the S&W .40 caliber pistol.

Seems his permit had been revoked, but nobody sought to confiscate his weapon. SYSTEM FAIL!

BUT...it's the guns fault, something has to be done, to repeat the dem logic.  Get rid of guns, even my wife says that is the solution.  I guess she wants to get rid of me, since the state will likely make me a criminal before this legislative session is over.
