Title: New CCDW permit
Post by: Libertarian5 on August 23, 2021, 10:43:01 PM
I submitted in March. Still waiting. Let everyone know how long it takes to get your permit. The struggle is real..

The wait sucks.  You could try calling Dale Broome  at the prothanary office. And your state sen & rep.

I spoke to someone in the Prothonotary's office on Friday, they said they still had three boxes of renewals to complete before the New applications. she said to be patient but suggested it would be around October.

In my opinion , that is not right. It's too long.
Maybe they need additional people to process the application.

They don't have a problem cashing your check immediately.

Agreed, it is not right and far too long.  But what would incentivize them to hire more staff or expend the money required to make the process more efficient and expeditious? It certainly does not seem like the frequency of violent incidents is going to be slowing down anytime soon.  I really hope that none of the many applicants still waiting for their permit to arrive find themselves a victim in the meantime..... or ever.....

As I've said before, the more new applications that are received in Delaware, the longer the process will take. If there are 50% more new applications received, by that right it will take 50% longer to get your permit. The one thing that could speed up the process is for the State to hire more people to process the applications. Somehow in this little Left-Wing socialist State I feel that is not going to happen. When there is no legal way to decline issuing permits, the only thing they have left is to slow down the process and try to @@@@ off the applicants into giving up.

I know someone that applied first week in August (first time) and received license Sept 14.    Sussex County.

It’s up to the judge, the AG office and the clerk who actually prints out and mails the license.  NEw Castle County is obviously slow walking these at one or more of these points.

I applied in June, so based on what people are saying, it might be next spring before I get mine.  :-\

And yes, I'm obviously NCC as well.

I wonder what the bottleneck is. Like, why are they taking so long compared to Kent and Sussex?

Yeah it's looking like 7-9 months. I submitted mid March so.. Not exactly sure why it takes so long. Just keep checking the mailbox and hope for best..

I contacted my representative (Kevin Hensley, Middletown) and he was gracious enough to listen.

I told him how it was a shame that California is now processing applications faster than New Castle County. He explained that it wasn't the first time people have complained to him about it, and said he would investigate further.

He said New Castle County used "we have more applicants" as an excuse. I sent Mr. Hensley the statistics proving that not to be the case. New Castle has 10,000ish CCDWs, Kent has 6,000ish, and Sussex has 7,000ish. If that was the case, Kent/Sussex would be processing applications in 60% and 70% of the time, respectively. Instead, we see applications for Kent/Sussex go through in 1-3 months, while New Castle takes 5+ months, easily.

I also called the prothonotary's office today and Dale Broome's voicemail says she'll be on vacation until September 13th. It's currently October 1st.  ???

It's funny: since I moved to Arizona, I've barely thought about permits.
I just carry concealed wherever I want. So does anyone else who is so inclined.

I would need a permit to carry in bars, but I hate bars anyway. (I'll get one to carry in Delaware, in the unlikely event I ever see Delaware again).

It's beautiful here, warm and dry... Tucson is the most drought-resistant city in the state, and real estate is relatively cheap...

Right?! Sad thing is I submitted in mid-March so they sat on it for 4-5 months before sending it to DOJ? How long will they sit on it? Still has to be signed off by the judge... I'm over it.

Received email today that it was signed off by judge on the 15th and should be here anytime.. hallelujah

Theoretically , If you apply for a first time permit in Jan. in NCC, it will have to wait until the renewals are complete before it is processes, because there in a "deadline" on renewals, but not on first timers. Once the renewals are complete, then they start on the new applications. There is naturally going to be a huge backup, of course. This means that as time goes by and more and more applications are received, the new first timers that apply in Jan. could be waiting until Dec., or longer,  in NCC. Remember, the Socialist Libby's in NCC don't want you to have a gun permit anyway.....

Kent and Sussex are not exempt either. As time goes by you could be waiting from 3 to 6 months or more to get you newbie permit.

I submitted in March but they didn't send it to the DOJ until late August and signed off by judge in October.. I guess you should just wait til after renewals just to save yourself peace of mind ...

Applications for renewal must be received on/or before May 30th of the year your permit expires. once the renewal application is received (on time) you are covered to conceal carry until the application is either approve and renewed, or if you are turned down for renewal, you must cease to carry concealed immediately , according to Delaware law.

So I'm assuming even though I received email with my permit number and all the info I still can't carry until I receive the actual permit via snail mail 🤨

Do you know if they email everyone? I put my new app in NCC may 3. I talked to the prothonotary office on 10-22. I was told the batch I was in was at the judge to be signed and that they should be sending my permit next week, which was last week. Still nothing. My buddy, who put his app in a month after me got his on 10-22. I guess they just throw them in a pile, and get to them whenever in no particular order. Hopefully it will be here this week, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it takes another month. Unbelievable

I emailed them through their new inquiry system and receive a response the same day stating it was okd by the DOJ on 10/12 and signed off by judge on 10/15 had my permit number and exp date too... Not sure how long it takes for the Prothonotary's office to mail them out....

I ended up emailing them today. My was approved and signed by the judge on 10-15. The return email included a number to call for mailing status. I called and he said that they have about 200 applications to finalize and log into the system. He said they should be mailed out within a week or 2.

I am in the same boat. I called them and they gave me the same story about being mailed out within a week or two. Specifically, they told me that my permit was approved and waiting to be printed, although their "system is down". I'm not sure exactly what that means. I'm assuming either the printer or logging software was/is broken.

I also learned that Dale Broome is finally gone. Thank goodness, since she never seemed to be able to pick up the phone or respond to emails.

I've also gotten a few of my friends to call their respective representatives to let them know that the Prothonotary's office drags their feet. When I called Gun Owners of America to see if they could light a fire under them, they told me two things:

First, if Delaware had a timeline for approvals (example: 60 days max) then they could sue them for being late. Sadly, that's not the case because Delaware has no such maximum.

Second, if the judges were the ones dragging their feet, they could fund their competitor's reelection campaign to kick the anti-gun judges out. Unfortunately, that can't happen either because the judges are appointed by the governor.

They told me to keep my fingers crossed for a good outcome from the big Supreme Court case starting on November 3rd. Delaware might have to face the music then.

What day did u talk to them? He didn’t say anything about the systems being down when I talked to him. I have a feeling we’ll be lucky if we get them by the end of the year. I was checking the mail every day hoping it would get here. Im not the most patient person when waiting on something, but I’m to the point Of not caring now. It will get here when it gets here. It’s the state. There in no rush and don’t care. Just gotta deal w it.

Excellent approach, young (?) man. It's like Schrodinger's Carry Permit: until you open the mailbox, it is both in the mailbox and not in the mailbox.*
If you want to carry legally tomorrow, come on out here to southern Arizona. I'll pick you up at TUS and drop you at your hotel. (Not kidding).

*and yes, the legal weed is really good here, and I smoke a lot of it.  8) :o :P ;D

Sorry, I'm just now seeing this. I talked with them on October 26th. As I said, they said it would be mailed within a week or two. Two weeks from October 26th = 11/9. So, I called them again on November 13th and told them I hadn't received it yet. They told me they make notes in their "system" and the current notes for mine said it was mailed.

As far as I can tell, a large percentage of people in NCC have been getting their permits on Saturdays. Since this week had Veterans Day (which means the USPS wasn't delivering), I have my fingers crossed that tomorrow is the day.

The USPS service is the pits lately. Never know when you'll get anything. I sent a check to pay my cable bill a little over a month ago. A week later I got a notice that they had no received it. I put a stop pay on the check and hand carried the payment to the cable store. So far the original check has not been cashed or turned up anywhere and the bank has tried to trace it to no avail.

USPS sucks!

Mine came Wed 11-10. It was mailed on the 5th. So 5 days from Wilm to get to Bear. There is a Usps app that you can get called informed delivery. It will show you what mail you have coming before it’s gets there. I have pieces of mail that were supposed to be delivered last week that still haven’t arrived. The mail service is complete feces show, as is everything else these days. For all you guys waiting, just hold tight. They will show up. I know it’s super frustrating. I would def get that app, it saves you from waiting all day just to get pissed off. You can check first thing in the morning and see what’s coming.
