My P228R is a US M11
« on: January 31, 2011, 09:10:12 PM »
So after reading on the Sig Forum that some surplus M11's had made it to the civilian market I got to wondering how to tell if a 228R was an M11 and after doing some research I found that what I thought was a funny looking bar code on the side of my Sig was really where Sig had removed the US M11 stamp on the gun so it could be sold. After calling Sig to confirm this I was told that they can no longer sell over run Gov. 228's with the US M11 stamp still on them. Some brilliant rule but If you look real closely you will see the stamp still on it. Just kinda cool to know that my P228R was made for the military and made with mil spec parts.

If you look closely you can see the M11 on the white box to the right.

The white box is a new bar code system that the goverment puts on everything now.

That's not what sig sauer told me it was done by them to remove the US and M11 markings. If you look at the side and the picture doesn't show it well you can see the frame was etched.
