TGI Fridays NO CARRY
« on: February 26, 2009, 11:51:52 PM »
So We went to TGI Fridays for dinner tonight and as we were leaving I noticed a sticker in the bottom corner of the door so when I shut the door I noticed a 3"x3" No Concealed Carry Weapons sticker on the door. Needless to say I was shocked for one the stick was very small and far from in plain site, come on the bottom corner of a door like anyone will see that. Well needless to say I had my last meal there.

I looked online and it seems to be a corporate policy. Also there are a few websites where you can trade that gift card.

I'm curious:

Why do they specify no CONCEALED weapons? If it's concealed, how would they even know? And why only concealed carry weapons? So I guess open carry is OK? LOL.....

It’s odd, but I would venture to guess that it is their weak attempt at trying to escape liability, AND to promote a “family friendly” environment.

If they are just trying to keep undesirables out that are illegally carrying, they could evict them on the basis of their rowdy/impolite behavior.  Also, these folks are ALREADY breaking the law – so a sticker won’t stop them from doing something else.  It can’t be just to remove the baddies AFTER a shooting, because everyone will have a lot more to worry about then.

So, the thought might be to say “we are not responsible for anything involving the shooting because we prominently displayed a warning that no concealed weapons were allowed on the premises.”  This argument probably won’t go too far, but…

The other thing is a little odder.  For a lot of people, if they see a sign saying “no guns allowed,” they will take that to mean that it is safe inside that establishment.   That doesn’t mean that it is safe – but they may THINK that it is safe.
Very few guns are actually "illegal guns."  A gun misappropriated by a criminal is no more of an "illegal gun" than a stolen car is an "illegal car."

What burns me about TGI Fridays is where the sign was located on the bottom of the door in the far right hand corner. >:(

OK, this brings up a question...forgive me if it has discussed within another thread.

Is there any requirement/law that an establishment must adhere to, regarding the size, visibility and/or placement of such signs?

That reminds of an incident on TNJ’s article forum (under the “old” one, so it’s not even like I could look it up).  Anyway, something came up about CCW (probably by me, in response to a crime story or something, but anyway…), and this one woman commented that she felt less threatened by criminals carrying concealed than she does by ordinary citizens legally carrying concealed.  Despite the fact that I don’t have a photographic memory to recall her exact words – I’m dead-on concerning the gist of her thoughts.

It’s nut-jobs like her that make the people at Farnhurst seem okay.
